Chapter Thirteen:Not An Accident

Isabella POV "Don't you ever do anything like that again," Alpha Benny said, patting my hand, his words echoing in the room like a whip as he sat at my bedside. His voice was thick, sending a cold chill down my spine. "That is your king's command," he said, his face blank, as his gaze hardened. I gulped down the uneasiness in my throat as my stomach tightened into knots. A heavy silence swept around us. Then his tone softened with a warm glow igniting in his eyes. I swallowed the bile in my throat as he narrowed his gaze on me. “How are you feeling?" He asked with a concerned look in his eyes. My body shuddered at the penetrating eyes that were sizing me up. "Hey, I'm okay," I whispered, clenching my jaw, my tone softening as he scanned me from head to toe. His face drained of color, he curled his fists as he shot me a glare. Heat spread in my belly, and I stiffened in front of him. “I know, and everything is going to be okay from now on. I promise," he stated flatly with an injured look in his eyes. “You just focus on getting better," he said. Just then, his phone rang, and he glanced at it, flicking his eyes back to me. I nodded in affirmation, lowering my head. "I will be right back," he stated in a firm tone, his lips stretched wider as he flashed me a faint smile, striding towards the door and closing the door behind him, making a creaking sound. My heart missed an odd beat. “Alpha Benny… Isabella's friends, they were killed last night." I heard his beta whispering in a low tone. The words pierced me like daggers as a bolt of panic broke through me, ripping through my flesh. I shot up from the bed, my heart pounding against my chest as I threw the blanket aside, stumbling towards the door. I slowly pushed the door open, and Benny stood at the entrance of the door with an injured look on his face. My stomach dropped, and my eyes widened with tears rolling down my cheeks. “I didn't get that right. Tell me this is a lie!” I screamed as the flames of my fury exploded. “I'm sorry they are dead,” Benny said with a wounded expression on his face. My voice pounded with grief crushing my chest so that I could barely breathe. “What! How?" I cried, my voice broken and raspy. “I need to see them," I whispered with tears streaming down my eyes as I kicked and thrashed against him, but nothing freed me from his hold. “You are in no condition to go anywhere, Isabella," he snarled at me, his tone firm, yet pain lingered in his eyes. "Please, I need to see them one last time," I whispered as sobs tore through my chest, my voice cracking in the air. “I know, and I will go with you," he replied, his tone flat. "Desmond, Mira." I broke out in a whimper as their memories echoed in my mind. “This was not an accident," I whispered as the words tasted in my mouth like poison, making his eyebrows furrow in confusion. What do you mean?” Alpha Benny inquired, his nose flaring up as he looked at me. My body trembled as his eyes darkened, which made my blood boil. “Eliana threatened me with them, and Cassian might even be in on it." I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palm, drawing blood. “Listen to me, we are going to figure out what happened to your friends," he declared in a stern voice filled with absolute determination. A dangerous fire ignited in his eyes as he stroked my hair gently. “As long as I am the wolf king, I promise they will see justice," he announced as I threw myself into his arms in a tight embrace. As I buried my face in his chest, only one thought lingered in my mind. Someone was going to pay for this.
