Chapter Six: Shielded By The Crown

Benny's POV
I placed her on a king-sized bed covering her with a blanket made of animal fur, her head resting on the pillow .
As the wolf king,I was obliged to take care of all members of the pack be it werewolf or not.
I couldn't help but imagine what she had gone through in this pack as my gaze landed on the wounds inflicted on her fragile skin .
I had made it mandatory that all members of the pack be treated with respect but here I am seeing a member treated no worse than an animal.
My heart shattered into a million pieces at the sight of what I saw tonight,the sound of the whip replayed in my head ringing a bell in my ears .
I clenched my fists , gritted my teeth with fury boiling inside of me as my fingers brushed through her skin ,examining the wounds deepening my worries.
“ What is her background?” I threw the question at my beta James who stood with his arms crossed behind him ,his eyes lingering on me who was watching Isabella still in a critical condition.
“ Alpha I tried finding out but nobody wants to talk about it as the matter is tied to Alpha Cassian family” he says, glancing curiously at me .
“ Alpha Cassian, how and why ? “ I questioned him angrily, clenching my jaw .
My jaw tightened,I rolled my eyes before giving him a side eye, my pupils dilating.
“ I have tried asking everyone around but there's no information on the case “ he said and I swallowed hard after receiving his response
My face twisted into irritation as I knew this matter was not that simple to be swept under the sheets .
“ Find out everything you can about her” my voice thundered with anger flitting in my eyes and James freezes feeling my Alpha authority dripping from my pores.
“ What did the doctor say about her ?” I inquired with a straight face.
“ The doctor said she is fine for now that the injuries are not that serious” he whispered gently,his voice filled with concern as I settled on the couch.
“ Thank you, you may retire for the night” I replied and he nodded awkwardly, turning away, slipping out and closing the door behind him.
Many questions pondered in my mind as I prayed to God for her recovery resting my back against the cushion before the lights finally went off.
“ Where am I?” What am I doing here ?” The question escaped from her lips as her eyes fluttered open in a dimly lit room. It was early in the morning with rays of sunlight streaming through the window.
Her arms trembled as her gaze landed on me who stood against the wall, my legs crossed with my arms folded like a night guard.
“Hey hey It's okay don't worry you are safe here I'm not going to let them hurt you anymore “ I said, stepping closer my voice softening, crouching to her level.
“ Who are you?” she demanded as she grabbed the blanket tighter over her body, her arms shaking squinting her eyes at me.
“ How are you feeling?” I inquired with concern laced in my tone brushing my fingertips over her skin. My eyes darted to her neck seeing the bruises which shot daggers into the depth of my soul.
She slapped my hand away and before we could say anything else,we heard heavy footsteps outside Cassian emerging from the shadows walking in, stepping forward, his blood boiling with rage .
“ Isabella what did you do ?” Cassian yelled.
Cassian stiffened looking at her like she had gone crazy.
Isabella stared at him confused as his face twisted.
“How dare you? He is our king as your next alpha ,I have been magnanimous but do not test me Isabella “ Her breath hitched with Cassian words striking a nerve , his expression darkening and the loud thumping of her heart became louder.
“ Now apologize to him for your insolence you b***h “ he demanded glowering over her with his nose flaring angrily.
Her breath caught, his words hit her like a dagger aimed at her chest.
He raised his hand determined to hit her but before he could strike her,I grabbed his hand and shoved it away.
“ Stop this Cassian, don't you have manners at all ?” I blurted out as I pointed an angry finger at him, my voice cracking like thunder echoing in the room.
“ But Alpha she disrespected you” he answered back ,his blood running cold exchanging gazes with me.
I looked at him mockingly like he was just a joke to me.
“Calm down Cassian, She didn't mean anything by it” I answered turning to Isabella.
“Right ?”I asked, my eyes squinting at her as she nodded weakly.
“I'm sorry my king I've got under a great deal of stress” she whispered, swallowing hard,her lips quivering in fear lowering her head.
“ It's alright “ I placed a hand on her shoulder locking gazes.
“With all due respect benny you know me and I wouldn't lie to you Isabella is the worst scum that there is she killed Cassian's brother in cold blood for no reason “ Eliana said causing a sharp pain tore through Isabella chest as she heard her words.
Isabella gritted her teeth upon hearing such accusations.
“ I didn't……” she stammered, rebutting to clear her name.
“ She doesn't deserve this pack, she doesn't deserve our king” Eliana shot back with menace with anger rising inside of her, turning Isabella speechless.
“From what I heard Casper deserved it we will seeI plan on finding out what really happened”I patted her hand softly, my deep voice resonating in the room, my gaze flickering on Eliana .
“My mate doesn't believe me but you do thank you my king “ she whispered with tears prickling her eyes .
“ He was your mate ?” I asked as my jaw fell open.
“ Yes he was but he rejected me “ she responded ,with her voice cracking.
“So she was your mate and you treated her like that ?” I blinked at his shamelessness, my blood boiling .
“ Not anymore alpha king, she is just a lowly servant, how can she be worthy of being my Luna “ he muttered.
“Her being here in the pack will only cause you problems, you must get rid of her” Eliana muttered coldly whispering into Cassian's ears but Isabella's heart was too heavy to say anything.
“You are not worthy of staying in this pack “ Cassian blurted out his words escaping from his lips as his face turned blank.
“Do you think I wanted to be here in the pack at first? It's a nightmare “ she retorted back, lifting her chin up narrowing his eyes to look at him, her heart burning more in anger at his heartlessness .
“ What did you say ?” Cassian clenched his fists, his eyebrows shooting up looking at Isabella directly in her eyes who stared bravely without cowering before him .
“A good alpha should know when to be kind,” I said firmly. Cassian clenched his jaw tightly, turning his face away in shame as he heard my words.
“Are you willing to take care of me while I stay here in your pack?” I shifted my sharp eyes to Isabella who enveloped her arms around her feet with callouses on her hands waiting for her answer.
“Yes my king “ she replied and the corner of my lips slowly stretched .
“ Great No one will hurt you as long as I am the wolf king of this pack “ I declared firmly commanding in my Alpha tone sounding a warning in their ears.
“Understood “ they chorused in unison and Eliana pulled Cassian out in frustration slamming the door behind them.
“Why is it so hard? “ Isabella groaned, raking her hair in frustration as she could not knot my tie to perfection.
“Easy Wolfie It's just a tie, don't go psycho and murder me now “I teased with a mischievous smile tugged on my lips as I blinked his eyelids at her
“Ha, not only is he king he's the comedian of the room” she blurted out with a wild smirk spreading across her face.
“Too soon take this part like this and down then you go up through no need to go fast some things are worth waiting for” I calmly explained guiding her gently whispering into her ears
“I did it” she leaped in excitement with smiles plastered all over her face.
“Now you wait here I will be back in a little bit “ I said and dabbed her cheeks with my fingers brushing and sending shivers down her body.
