The following day, immediately upon entering the office, I understood something was indeed wrong. The atmosphere was heavy and charged. A few staff members looked at me when I passed by them, then quickly looked away.
I noticed the smile stopping suddenly and the conversation quieting. I was filled with an instinct that something was off. I kept my head up and carried the portfolio on which I had worked all night. As the traffic cleared, I sat still in the car as Father carefully drove out of the way. “What silly stunt do you want to pull now, darling?” I asked with casual disdain.
