Small Breakthrough

It had been five days since the minor horde attack at the city gates, and the city had since returned to its usual calm, as if the chaos had never occurred. However, among the mage families and clans, the topic remained hot. Whispers filled the streets and halls—everyone was talking about what had happened, especially the performance of the Gordon Clan. It was now widely acknowledged that the Gordons had outshone every other clan during the hunt and were awarded the highest prize for their efforts. What was supposed to be a controlled exercise for the younger generation had taken a sharp turn when a real threat emerged, exposing two significant secrets in the process. The first was already turning into legend: the young master of the Gordon Clan was a once-in-a-millennium talent. Stories spread like wildfire—he had slain a Peak-Tier 1 zombie without suffering a single scratch. He commanded not one, but two renowned Tier 1 golems, and his spear techniques were already said to be unmatched in his realm. Many dismissed the tales as exaggerations, yet curiosity lingered. Young elites from various clans began visiting the Lanzt family to verify the claims, only to be shocked by what Bryan Lanzt told them: “Don’t mess with the Gordon’s younger generation. They’ve got a monster wearing human skin.” Even with the warning, many of the young masters remained undeterred, their pride and curiosity outweighing reason. Some issued formal challenge invitations to Alec, eager to gain glory by defeating the city’s new rising star. But the Gordon Clan declined all requests, citing Alec’s seclusion and refusal to entertain meaningless duels. The rejections only stoked the flames of resentment among the challengers. Yet, the second secret was even more earth-shattering. News spread that the Gordon Clan Patriarch had revealed a Tier 7 golem—an achievement so rare it shook the power dynamics of the entire city. The moment this was confirmed, envy ignited across rival families and clans. Behind closed doors, whispers of admiration turned to plots of sabotage and schemes fuelled by greed and fear. The Gordons had not only gained honour—they had made themselves a target. Even those who had once competed with the Gordons Clan had gone low-key, careful not to draw any attention to themselves. “It seems the Gordons are truly on the rise now. We’d be wise not to offend them,” someone whispered. “Alec’s talent alone would normally have made him a target for assassins, but with a Tier 7 grandfather, no one dares to make a move,” another added grimly. “I guess we’ll only see the truth behind his power when the next blood moon arrives… and that’s just a few weeks away,” someone else mused. In the streets, speculation about the Gordons Clan grew louder. Some were cautious, while others eagerly awaited the blood moon, hoping to witness Alec’s abilities first-hand. Meanwhile, the entire Gordon estate had gone into lockdown, ignoring the flood of questions from the curious citizens. “Hey boss, I’m here, just like I promised,” Arthur announced as he entered Alec’s courtyard—only to freeze at the sight. Alec sat in deep meditation beside the courtyard pond, flanked by Titan and Legion on either side like silent guardians. A rush of excitement surged in Arthur. He wanted to shout out his admiration for Alec, to say he was worth every bit of hype—but the piercing gazes of Titan and Legion silenced him. So, he quietly sat cross-legged and waited. Moments later, footsteps echoed. Arthur turned and scowled. “What the hell are you doing here?” he snapped. Brandon entered calmly. “Same reason you are,” he replied, before seating himself in the same meditative posture. Then Alec’s eyes opened. A faint smile curled his lips—and suddenly, he let loose his full aura in a primal scream toward the sky. “Arrghhh!” The pressure crashed down like a wave. Arthur and Brandon staggered to their feet, wide-eyed with shock. “I can’t believe it… he’s already advanced to a (Mid) Tier 1 mage!” Arthur shouted, stunned. “I always had a feeling he was close to breaking into the (Mid) Tier 1 Realm. Honestly, it’s no surprise he advanced so easily with his combat talent,” Brandon remarked, glancing at Arthur for confirmation. Still entranced by Alec’s aura, Arthur could only nod, overwhelmed by the display of strength. “I can’t wait for the banquet. This time, we can flaunt our arrogance while all those other mage clans—battle path or not—watch in awe,” Arthur said, barely able to contain his excitement. Eager to assess the changes in his body, Alec summoned the system. [Status Tab] Name: Alec Gordons Race: Human Level: 6 Tier: 1 [Mid] Exp till next level: 0/1000 [Attributes] Strength: 14+ Agility: 16+ Endurance: 13+ Mana: 500/500 Affinity: Earth (High)+, Fire (High)+ Available Points: 12 System Points: 689 Alec’s eyes widened as he reviewed his stats. All his core attributes had risen by five points without using any of his available attribute points. It was equivalent to five full level-ups. He clenched his fist and felt the power humming beneath his skin—it was intoxicating. “Congrats on the breakthrough, Boss!” Arthur said with pride, clearly trying to secure his place as Alec’s number one supporter. Not wanting to be left behind, Brandon quickly followed. “Congratulations, Boss.” But it was too late—Arthur had already claimed the spotlight. Then Alec noticed something else: his mana pool. It was larger than before—significantly larger. “Why is my mana capacity this high?” he asked the system silently. [X]: As the system’s host and heir to a legacy, your mana pool is naturally above average. But the real reason for the boost is your reckless mana a***e during all your golem experiments. Alec chuckled at the system’s dry tone. [Status Tab] Name: Alec Gordons Race: Human Level: 6 Tier: 1 [Mid] Exp till next level: 0/1000 [Attributes] Strength: 14+ Agility: 16+ Endurance: 13+ Mana: 460/500 Affinity: Earth (High)+, Fire (High)+ Available Points: 12 System Points: 689 “I guess some things never change,” Alec muttered, narrowing his eyes as he noticed the 20-point drop in mana—proof the system was still siphoning it at will. “And when did answering a question start costing 40 mana?” Alec grumbled, annoyed, momentarily forgetting that Arthur and Brandon were still standing by. Simple. You advanced, so the system advanced too, the system chirped. This means I can now give more detailed answers and talk for a few more seconds—but, of course, at a price! ^o^ [Status Tab] Name: Alec Gordons Race: Human Level: 6 Tier: 1 [Mid Tier] Exp till next level: 0/1000 [Attributes] Strength: 14+ Agility: 16+ Endurance: 13+ Mana: 420/500 Affinity: Earth (High)+, Fire (High)+ Available Points: 12 System Points: 689 “What the f**k!” Alec cursed, realizing the system had trapped him with its evolving demands. “Hmph, you’re not getting what you want,” he muttered, deciding to ignore it for now. He had too many questions, but he refused to give the smug system the satisfaction of answering them—at a cost. Turning back to Arthur and Brandon, Alec finally addressed their presence. The two boys were still stiff, as if they were being stared down by a beast ready to pounce. Whatever hesitation they’d had before was now gone—they were fully committed. “What do you both want?” Alec asked. “To become stronger!” they shouted in unison. Arthur quickly added, “The power stones we got from the last battle are already used up for cultivation. We can feel ourselves on the verge of reaching the (Mid) Tier 1 mage realm.” “But that’s not enough,” Arthur continued, a bit flustered. “We want more. We want to be strong enough to truly stand beside you—not just trail behind you and your golems.” Alec couldn’t help but laugh. “I get what you’re saying. You both must feel humiliated being weaker than my golems. But if that’s your drive, then bury that pride.” He paused and looked at them seriously. “I’m guessing you came because you heard Agnes and Knight are undergoing special training,” Alec said. “But let me be clear—I don’t offer ‘special’ training. I only offer hell.” He grinned, but the expression had a dangerous edge to it. “Are you ready for that?” “Yes!” they both replied, without hesitation. “We’ll gladly train under you!” “Thanks for accepting us, Boss!” they both said gratefully. “No need for thanks,” Alec replied, waving it off. “Titan, whip them into shape—fast.” As Alec walked away, he threw a smirk over his shoulder. “Try to last one minute with Titan. I’ll be back,” he added, snickering to himself. He could already tell they were underestimating the golem. Curious, he pulled up Titan’s stats again and shook his head. “They’re screwed if they have to spar with that monster,” Alec muttered. “Especially now that he’s levelled up.” [Earth Golem] Name: Titan Level: 6 (Can be upgraded – 62/1000) Realm: Mid Tier 1 Rank: Rare Strength: 30 Agility: 17 Endurance: 27 Even though Titan wasn’t classified as an elite golem with high-level intelligence, it had become just as powerful as Legion was when it first advanced to Mid Tier 1. In fact, Titan could easily decimate that (Peak) Tier 1 speed demon zombie Legion fought when it was only at Level 1.
