“I choose the golem that resembles me and the one wielding the axe,” Brandon declared, stepping forward before Arthur could react, his voice was calm but firm, eager to take initiative, the six-armed and crystal-core golems gave him an uneasy feeling, so he opted for the ones that used traditional weapons, the ones he felt he could read and counter more easily.
“Oh, look at you suddenly finding your voice and snatching the easy ones, you cheeky bastard,” Arthur muttered, realizing too late that Brandon had beaten him to the more manageable picks.
“No need to whine, they’re not even Tier 1 yet. Come on, Arthur, watch and see if you can pick up a thing or two while Brandon handles them.” Alec said with a smirk.
Alec waved him over, and the two moved aside to observe the battle that was about to happen.
“Go!” Alec commanded.
The golems moved instantly, charging toward Brandon with mechanical precision, the great sword-wielding golem led the charge, its massive blade crashing into Brandon’s sword with a forceful clang that sent a minor shockwave through the courtyard.
Brandon held his ground, but before he could recover, a colossal axe came down toward his head from above.
“F*ck this!” Brandon growled, caught completely off guard by the second attack, Arthur’s jaw dropped, and even Alec blinked in surprise at the sudden follow-up from the axe golem. Still, he couldn’t help but feel impressed.
Brandon swiftly raised his great sword to block the strike, using it like a shield after pushing the sword-wielding golem backwards, however the moment steel met steel, he realized his mistake, this golem was far stronger than its sword-wielding counterpart, the impact alone had pushed him back several steps, his hands shaking from the shock of the blow.
“Seriously, Brandon, I get that you enjoy sword fights, but you’re a mage. Use earth magic or something, your mana pool isn’t just there to look pretty.” Alec called out dryly, though his tone was sarcastic, but the advice he gave was genuine as it came from his heart.
He cursed himself for not realizing sooner that someone with Brandon’s exceptional affinity could have mastered elemental spells, yet had chosen to rely almost entirely on brute strength, he was constantly neglecting the true potential of what being a mage is and was now paying the price, which Alec wanted to stop.
Brandon finally acknowledged the truth, to defeat these advanced golems, he needed more than raw power, he needed versatility.
“Stone Bullet!” Brandon yelled, channelling his mana.
A volley of sharpened stones erupted from the ground and flew toward the axe-wielding golem, interrupting its follow-up strike, the golem tried to dodge, but the rain of projectiles battered its body, halting its advance as fragments chipped away from its stony frame, just as Brandon began to reposition, an uneasy shiver crawled down his spine.
Since that day battling the zombies, Brandon had developed a sharpened instinct, a kind of sixth sense born from his deep affinity with the earth element, it was as though the ground itself whispered warnings to him, without looking back, he flung his left hand behind him and whispered a chant under his breath.

A grin crept across Alec’s face as he noted the Axe Golem’s progress, it had officially unlocked its primary weapon skill, though the Destroyer Golem had yet to attain its sword mastery, Alec wasn’t concerned.
He sensed it was on the verge of a
breakthrough, and a few more battles should be enough to push it over the edge.
