I snapped awake with a sharp, ragged gasp. My eyes blinked open slowly, but the sprawling ceiling that greeted my blurred vision was completely foreign. Where on earth am I? I attempted to sit up, but a violent wave of vertigo hit my skull. My limbs felt agonizingly heavy and weak, as though every ounce of strength had been systematically drained from my body. I was forced to plant both hands firmly against the mattress just to keep myself from collapsing back onto the pillows. Slowly, fragments of my memory began to piece themselves together. The hotel. The main lobby. Tasya. Two shadowy men. And after that... pitch black . My heart began to hammer violently against my ribs. The terrifying reality of the situation set in, and the absolute first thought that flashed through my mind was the state of my clothes. With hands that were still trembling uncontrollably, I frantically checked myself. I cast my eyes downward. The elegant evening gown I had worn to the gala was still perfectly intact, clinging to my frame. I meticulously verified that nothing had been altered or disturbed. Everything was untouched. A heavy breath of genuine relief escaped my lips, but it was instantly eclipsed by a far more sinister question. If those men had abducted me... Why? What did they intend to do with me? Lifting my head, I began to thoroughly scan my surroundings. The room was colossal—far more expansive than anything I could have ever imagined. The primary quarters housed a massive, king-sized bed and a doorway leading into what appeared to be an ultra-luxury walk-in closet. Directly across from the bed, the space seamlessly transitioned without doors into a secondary lounge. Placed squarely in the center of that lounge was a sleek set of sofas framing a low coffee table. However, my wandering gaze ground to a sudden halt on a figure resting further ahead. A man was sitting in a single armchair. His back was turned completely toward me. In front of him was a desk cluttered with neatly stacked documents and a glowing, open laptop. Every muscle in my body seized, my entire frame going completely rigid. Who is he? In a high-stakes situation like this, there was no time for rational, calculated thought. Raw, primal survival instinct overrode everything else. He was the only other occupant in this room. And in my mind, that automatically made him prime suspect number one. My eyes darted around the perimeter, desperately hunting for anything that could be weaponized. My gaze locked onto the heavy metal nightstand lamp resting right beside the bed. Without a second thought, my hand shot out and gripped the base tightly. I slid out of bed. The moment my feet made contact with the floor, my knees buckled, nearly sending me crashing down. I bit my lower lip hard, forcing my body to stand upright. My limbs were still desperately weak, but the overwhelming urge to defend myself fueled me forward . I couldn't afford to give him the upper hand. If he truly was the monster responsible for dragging me here, I needed to strike first. Grip tightening around the heavy lamp, I stole silently toward his blind spot . One step. Two steps. The distance between us evaporated. I loomed over his massive, broad-shouldered frame from behind. Given my current depleted state, I knew I couldn't afford to give him a single second to react. If a physical struggle broke out, his sheer size and power would crush me instantly. I had to end this with one decisive blow. Lifting the heavy lamp as high as my trembling arms could manage, my entire body coiled like a spring. I braced myself to swing it with lethal force straight down at his skull. But before my arms could make the downward.. "HANNAH!" A woman's panicked shriek violently shattered the silence of the room. I flinched, completely caught off guard. That voice... I recognized it instantly. My momentum died on the spot. The heavy lamp, which was a mere fraction of an inch away from fracturing the man's head, hovered frozen in mid-air, dangling dangerously above its target. I snapped my head toward the source of the scream. "Tasya?" Tasya was standing a short distance away, her face a mask of absolute, horrified shock. What on earth is she doing here? Before my brain could even begin to process her presence, my entire body was abruptly and violently yanked forward. "Ah—!" My balance dissolved into nothing. In the blink of an eye, the hand holding the weapon was completely compromised. A powerful, unyielding grip clamped around my wrist, rendering the lamp useless. But what shocked me even more was his other hand, which snaked around my waist and pulled me flush against him. The momentum dragged me forward until my chest slammed directly into his solid frame. My feet dragged helplessly against the floor, entirely at the mercy of his terrifying strength. Everything happened with such lethal, blinding speed that I didn't even have the chance to formulate a counterattack. I was utterly paralyzed. The man held me in a restrictive, intimate embrace, effortlessly neutralizing any further threat of aggression. My hand was still desperately clutching the lamp, but my wrist was trapped in an iron vice under his control. Forced to look up, his face finally came into sharp, agonizingly clear focus. We were dangerously close. Our eyes locked instantly. For several breathless seconds, I could only stare at him, my eyes wide with a mixture of terror and bewilderment. What just happened? I swallowed hard. Just a second ago, I had envisioned a brutal, bloody struggle for my life—yet here I was, completely contained within his arms. I couldn't comprehend how any human being could move that fast. "Whoa, easy there, sweetheart." The corner of his lips tugged upward, forming a faint, devastatingly handsome smirk. Sweetheart? I stared at him in utter disbelief. Here I was—weak, traumatized, abducted, and trapped in an unknown location—and this man actually had the nerve to flirt? "Let me go," I hissed, trying to violently wrench my arm free. But his grip on my wrist remained unshakeable. "I had no idea you greeted people with domestic violence," he murmured. His tone was smooth, laced with a distinct layer of amusement. He didn't show a single ounce of fear, treating the fact that I had almost split his skull open as nothing more than a minor entertainment. "I said, let me go right now!" I demanded, glaring straight into his dark eyes. I desperately tried to project a fierce bravery that, in reality, was vanishing rapidly along with my remaining energy. The man merely arched a single, mocking eyebrow . For some reason, that silent arrogance made my blood boil. This man was either completely unhinged, or dangerously overconfident. Whatever the case, I absolutely loathed him. If he refused to release me willingly, I would have to play dirty. I cast a quick, calculated glance downward at our positioning. I began to gauge the distance, preparing to drive the sharp heel of my shoe directly into his shin or stomp on his foot with everything I had left. The sudden shock would surely force him to break his hold. My leg shifted slightly, searching for the perfect opening to strike. "Don't even think about it," a deep voice rumbled directly above my head, cutting off my plan before it could even begin. My head snapped back up to look at him, only to find that infuriating, knowing smirk still playing on his lips. "Hannah!" Tasya’s voice cut through the tension, snapping me out of the trance. At the exact same time, another male voice echoed from the side of the room. "Adrian." The tone was laced with pure disbelief, as though the speaker couldn't quite fathom the bizarre spectacle unfolding before him. I ripped my attention away, looking over at Tasya. "Tasya..." My voice came out incredibly hoarse. The moment the man slightly loosened his suffocating grip, I aggressively yanked my hands free and stumbled several paces backward. My legs felt like jelly, but I forced myself to stand tall and maintain my dignity. Tasya rushed to my side, her face twisted with immense worry. "Hannah, are you okay?" I opened my mouth to respond, but a chaotic storm of questions was fighting for dominance in my head. The only thing I knew for certain was that we weren't in immediate danger. Seeing Tasya safe and sound brought a strange, grounding relief. "What... what is this place?" "Don't ask anything just yet," she interrupted gently, placing a soft, comforting hand on my arm—a stark contrast to the brutal force the two kidnappers had used on me earlier. "You look incredibly weak." "But I need to know what happened." "I know," Tasya sighed heavily. "I will explain everything to you. I promise. But not right now." She turned and walked toward the sofa arrangement, setting down a plastic shopping bag onto a nearby dining table. Reaching for a designer duffel bag resting near the couch, she zipped it open and held it out to me. "I managed to bring a fresh change of clothes for you." I stared blankly at the bag, and then looked back up at her. "How on earth do you have a fresh change of my clothes?" I demanded, my brow furrowing. "It’s a very long story." Tasya rubbed my arm gently, her touch grounding me. "Just change your clothes first. Then, eat something. I need to make absolutely sure you’re physically stable before I explain a single thing about what happened." I was far from satisfied. "Tasya..." "Please, Hannah." The sheer weight in her voice silenced me instantly. She looked at me with an uncharacteristically solemn expression. "You just survived an ordeal that you don't even fully comprehend yet. I don’t want you forcing yourself to process everything right this second." I exhaled a long, defeated sigh. Yielding to her logic, I finally reached out and took the duffel bag from her. "Fine." A small, relieved smile graced Tasya’s lips, her shoulders visibly relaxing the moment I complied. "Go change. After that, we’ll get some breakfast." "Whatever you say, Mother," I grumbled under my breath, thoroughly annoyed by how she was bossing me around like a helicopter parent. Tasya threw a sharp glare my way. "Hannah." Her tone carried a clear, warning edge. I fought back a smirk. "Okay, okay. I'm going to change." I gripped the handles of the bag tightly. Tasya shook her head, letting out an exhausted sigh. She gently took my hand and guided me toward the luxury bathroom.
