Elise’s POV
Guilt crept inside of me the moment I stepped into the vehicle heading toward the address Rhea gave me, a quiet accusation that I didn't fully trust my boyfriend. My hands rested tightly on my lap and my fingers began to twist together as my thoughts refused to stay still.
I wanted to trust him,I really did, but doubt pressed in my heart. Rhea had no reason to lie to me, and that alone made my chest feel heavier with every passing second. Still, a small, desperate part of me clung to hope, whispering that maybe she's lying.
My heart kept thumping badly in me immediately I dropped by the so-called Alessa's house. The moment my eyes landed on Roland's Mercedes Benz parked outside the house, everything inside me dropped. My breath hitched instantly, and I stood there frozen for a second, staring at the car like it was confirming every fear I had been trying to silence.
I managed to move my legs forward, though each steps felt heavier than the last as I walked through the door. My mind kept arguing with itself, trying to reject what was right in front of me, but the closer I got, the harder it became to ignore the truth pressing against my chest. Still, I needed to hear it from him. I needed him to say it himself.
Standing in front of the door, I took a deep breath and raised my hand to press the bell, but I stopped midway. My fingers hovered in the air as doubt flooded me again. What if it was true? What if everything I believed in shattered the moment that door opened? My heart is really terrified to know the truth.
I turned to leave, but I hadn’t even taken four steps when the door suddenly opened behind me. My body stiffened as I turned back, and there she was: a beautiful woman, standing there with a bright, welcoming smile that felt completely out of place in my crumbling world.
“Hiiii-hiii…” I greeted her, my tongue stuttering but before I could say anything else, she stepped forward and pulled me into a warm hug.
“What a wonderful day it is,” she said cheerfully as she pulled back, her eyes shining with excitement. “You are Roland’s sister, right? You came for the engagement, didn’t you? Come on, don’t just stand there. Let’s go inside. There are lots of refreshments.”
Her words echoed in my head: ENGAGEMENT. My thoughts spun wildly as I tried to process everything, but I didn’t even get the chance to respond before she gently pulled me inside, straight into a lively, cheerful and joyous crowd that felt suffocating instead of welcoming me.
Without thinking much,I scanned through the room, looking for him. Roland stood among his friends, laughing casually like nothing was wrong. Maybe it was only me that felt this was wrong. Maybe he didn't feel anything for me anymore. But the moment he turned and saw me, everything changed. His expression froze, shock flashing clearly across his face, and for a brief second, I saw something like guilt on his face.
“Roland, look who is here for our ceremony,” Alessa said happily, wrapping her arm around his. “Sweetheart, I thought you said she wasn’t around?”
I didn't need him to explain to me that he'd neglected me and the beautiful lady was now his girlfriend who he would declare to the pack.
I didn’t need explanations anymore. The way she stood close to him, the way he didn’t pull away, and the soft peck she placed on his lips right in front of me… it was enough.
It felt like something inside my chest was being crushed slowly, painfully. The air became difficult for me to breathe, and for a moment, I thought I might collapse right there in front of everyone. But I refused. I couldn’t let them see me break. Not here. Not in front of him.
“Oh… maybe that’s Rhea you’re referring to,” I said, forcing a small smile onto my lips. “I’m Elise.”
Alessa’s eyes widened in surprise, . “Wow, Roland never told me he has another sister,” she said lightly, clearly amused. “Anyway, it’s nice to meet you. Thank you for coming to our engagement ceremony. The formal announcement will happen soon.”
Roland was obviously shocked and at the same time relieved when I didn't bother to tell Alessa that I was his girlfriend.
Everything was now clear to me. He already have a girlfriend that he would announce to the pack as his woman and future Luna. I was no longer part of his future. I was just…. something he had already left behind.
“Wow… congratulations to both of you,” I said, keeping my voice steady despite the storm inside me. “You two look perfect together. Congratulations once again.”
“Thank you so much, my dear,” she replied sweetly before turning to him. “Roland, keep Elise company for me. I need to attend to something.”
As soon as Alessa walked away, the air between us shifted. The warmth disappeared, replaced by something heavy and uncomfortable. I didn’t like the idea that me and Roland were now standing close but I had no choice.
“I’m… I’m really sorry, Elise,” After minutes of silence between us, Roland finally said, his voice stuttering, as if he didn’t even know where to begin.
“You know I’m the future Alpha,” he continued, avoiding my eyes. “I don’t have a choice. I have to marry someone of high status. I’m sorry.”
I stared at him for a moment, trying to recognize the person standing in front of me, but he felt like a stranger now. The same person who once promised me everything was now calmly explaining why I wasn’t worth choosing.
“No problem, Roland,” I replied softly, even though my chest burned with every word. “Everyone has a choice… and I’m glad you’ve made yours.”
I forced a smile, ignoring the tears gathering in my eyes, refusing to let them fall in front of him. “Congratulations again. Please take good care of Alessa. She’s a very kind woman… and tell her goodbye for me.”
Without waiting for a response, I turned and walked away.

“Don’t tell me you’re taking the fourth bottle,” Oliver, my friend, muttered with concern, her brows knitting together as she watched me grab another bottle of whiskey from the counter. The bar was loud, filled with music and chatter, but none of it mattered to me. I had asked her to meet me here for one reason: to drown everything I was feeling.
I needed something to hold me together, something to stop me from falling apart completely. Because today… everything had collapsed at once. Alpha Pascal had already sealed my fate, deciding I would be sent to the Lycan King like I was nothing more than a tool. And as if that wasn’t enough, the only person I ever loved wholeheartedly had just proven that I meant nothing to him.
Before today, I had been quiet, obedient, always following orders because I didn’t have a choice. My father, our former Alpha of the pack, was executed after being framed for treason after a rogue invasion.
Alpha Pascal was kind enough to bring me into his home after he took over the throne as the Alpha.
But his real motive for adopting me came into light today. All Alphas of the Northern Arc had agreed to send their eldest daughters to the Lycan King's harem to become his wives. Now, it's fine for the Icefur pack to send their daughter. And Alpha Pascal had every intention to send me to that beast in place of her daughter.
The most disheartening of it all was the fact that the only person who claimed to love me decided to choose power over me. He didn't even allow me to leave the pack before engaging himself with another woman right before my eyes. Despite all his promises.
My chest tightened painfully, the venom of betrayal breaking my spirit. Before I knew it, I was sipping the last drop of whiskey. My hand moved to my chest instinctively, gripping it as if I could physically hold myself together.
“Elise….… what are you going to do now?” Oliver asked softly, leaning closer, her voice filled with worry.
I let out a quiet breath, staring into my glass before replying, “What choice do I have?” My own words echoed back at me, reminding me of what I told Roland earlier. Everyone has a choice. Maybe I didn’t have the power to escape my fate, but there was still one thing I could control.
“I might not choose who I marry… but I can choose what happens before that,” I muttered under my breath, a crazy thought slowly forming in my mind.
“Elise, wait… I know that look,” Oliver said quickly after noticing my facial appearance, her tone turning serious. “You shouldn’t do this.”
I glanced at her and gave a small, mysterious smile. “You don’t even know what I’m planning, my friend.”
“I know you enough to know it’s something dangerous,” she replied firmly.
“So is marrying that smug asshole,” I snapped, a sharp answer to the cruelly crafted future before me.
Oliver's eyes widened in terror as she quickly covered my mouth. “Are you out of your mind? Someone could hear you!” she whispered, scanning around the bar for prying eyes.
The bar thumped loudly with music, making it very hard for anyone to listen to other people's conversation.
“Elise, have you gone mad? Don't you know someone might hear what you just said?” Oliver asked me as she throbbed her head.
“The music is very loud for anybody to hear whatever we are saying, Oliver. Relax ” I said to her, followed by a slight grin.
“Fine. It seems you are already drunk. I'm sure you know that Alpha Pascal will be mad at you of he knows you're here. Let's go back to the pack house now,” Oliver suggested, the lines on her face etched with concern. “Before that, let me visit the restroom.”
The moment she walked away, I knew this was my chance. The opportunity to execute my plan. My eyes scanned the room slowly, searching for someone, anyone, who could help me carry out my plan.
All I needed was someone for tonight and my problem would be solved. I scanned again through the bar, searching for a partner.
I might not have the choice to escape the fact that I will be marrying someone I didn't know nor love but I have the choice to decide when and who I'm going to give my virtue.
My gaze swept through every corner of the room. I saw eager men, a ready solution to my predetermined fate but no one could catch my interest until my gaze finally found him: an alluring overwhelming figure.
His presence stood out among others, overwhelming and towering. His steely blue eyes held mine in an irresistible manner, turning everything around me hazy. The world seemed to slow to halt and he was all I could see.
That very moment, my heart skipped a beat as something unfamiliar stirred inside me. He exuded a dangerous aura that made my instincts scream to stay away. But at the same time, I couldn't look away. I felt drawn to him in a way that didn't make sense.
“No… not him,” I whispered to myself, trying to shake off the feeling, but his presence lingered in my mind no matter how hard I tried to ignore it.
The way his eyes locked on mine was too strong, making it difficult for me to breathe. It's better to look for another man. My eyes swept around the room again, hoping to find someone else.
I forced myself to look away and move, trying to escape whatever pull he had on me, but my thoughts kept drifting back to him.
The bar suddenly felt too crowded and my chest grew tight with worry. The music in the room became too loud, the same as my own racing chest. I dragged my feet away from that spot, trying to get away from the danger that seemed to accompany me.
The light from the chandeliers shine across the room and I moved quickly, only wanting to break free from his stare. I have no idea of where I was heading to, but I let the night carry me forward.
Many feelings clashed inside of me. I finally moved toward a quiet corner and leaned against the wall, trying to steady my breathing and put space between me and the strange man
I shut my eyes completely, trying my best not to remember his captivating gaze and the dangerous aura he carried with him. Eventually, my eyes betrayed me as I returned my eyes to where he was sitting. But disappointment coursed through me as he was nowhere to be found.
Using every force in me to cut the irresistible pull he had on me, I said to myself, “Oliver is right… this is foolish of me.”
I eventually took the decision of leaving the bar, taking hesitant steps towards the door. I had only taken few steps from the bar counter when my began to spin, maybe because of the bottles of alcohol I took earlier.
Desperately trying to steady myself and not fall, my legs betrayed me. But befire my body could hit the ground, my back landed at the chest of someone, inarguably, a man.
I slowly lifted my head, my blurred vision struggling to focus, and when it finally did, my heart skipped again. It caught the familiar gaze of those charming blue eyes gazing at me in a knowing amusement.
“Be careful, pretty jewel,” he warned, his voice was low and smooth, a very seductive one that sent cold shiver down my spine.
Something inside me snapped at that the tensional moment. My self-restraint faded with no trace. Without thinking, I wrapped my arms around his tattooed neck, a very daring move that surprised him.
His brows lifted slightly in surprise before a slow, amused smile spread across his lips. He didn’t push me away. Instead, his arms tightened around me, pulling me even closer as the heat between us rose instantly.
“You are quite bold,” he murmured, his lips so close that I could feel the heat of his breath.
I couldn't resist the craving for his lips, so, without thinking, I grabbed his collar and pulled his mouth to mine, crashing my lips against his in a desperate, reckless kiss. He responded immediately, his lips moving against mine with equal intensity as the kiss deepened.
A soft moan escaped me as his hands travelled slowly over my body, gripping my waist, pressing me against him, sending waves of heat through my body. Each movement made me throb with want.
His lips kept moving harder on mine, and his hands began to explore me non-stop, stroking, squeezing, claiming every part of me he could reach.
Before I knew what was happening, my thoughts blurred completely as I pressed closer to him, surrendering myself completely to the overwhelming sensation.
