Chapter 68 - Mission

2525 Words

...... Veil ...... I open my mouth but close it again, not knowing what to say while my mind screams at me to tell him to leave me alone, but I don’t want to be rude. "Come, I’ll give you a ride," he says, and I thank him but tell him I’ll be okay. "I’m waiting for someone." "What’s your name again?" "River," "I won’t bite River, I promise. Look at the sky; it’s going to rain any minute now," he says, and the more he insists, the more I don’t want to get into his car, but I do. I walk over to it and slide into the back seat, even though he opened the front door. He starts the engine, pulls smoothly, and pulls away from the curb. I lean back and watch the raindrops, realizing he was right about the rain. There's silence for a while as I watch the city pass by outside the window.
