suffer a car accident

Eleanor walked out of the presidential suite, the phone in her hand still ringing incessantly. Her mind was racing, her thoughts swirling as she tried to figure out a way to resolve this nightmare quickly. It had all happened so suddenly; she couldn't help but suspect that the drink she’d been drugged with last night was a setup by Henry. Why else would the hotel have called her on the eve of the wedding to confirm the banquet menu, when everything had already been finalized? This was undoubtedly a conspiracy orchestrated by Henry. The wedding had to go ahead today. She had planned for this for too long, hoped for too long; she could not fail at the final hurdle. No matter what happened, nothing could shake her determination to marry William. Only by marrying into the Van Orden family could she uncover the truth and fulfill her father's dying wish... She looked up at the blinding sun; the intense glare seared her eyes, bringing a mist of moisture to them. Taking the elevator down to the underground parking garage, she got into her car. Taking a deep breath, she gripped the steering wheel, blinking away a fleeting, dark glint of cold resolve... As her car merged onto the highway, Eleanor received another call from William. “Baby, where are you? The wedding is about to start. Why aren't you answering your phone?” William's anxious voice rang out the moment the call connected. “I'm on my way right now... Ah!” Before she could finish, a deafening *bang* erupted. Her car had been rear-ended, and her phone flew from her hand. Her head slammed violently against the steering wheel, followed by a searing pain on her forehead. “Baby? What's wrong, Baby? What happened?” William's frantic voice came through the dropped phone. “I... I got rear-ended on the road... our wedding...” Eleanor pressed a hand to the winding stream of blood flowing down her forehead, feeling dizzy and lightheaded. As soon as the words left her mouth, she felt stars exploding before her eyes. Her vision went black, and she passed out. “Baby!” On the other end of the line, William’s voice was filled with terror and desperation. When Eleanor finally regained consciousness, all she could see was a blur of white. “Baby, you're awake?” Eleanor felt a throbbing headache. Hearing a familiar voice by her ear, she asked,“How did a car accident happen? What exactly happened?” “William...” Seeing his familiar, handsome face, memories of everything that had transpired with Henry flooded back, and her gaze darted away evasively.“I... I don't really know. Last night, my best friend threw me a party to celebrate my last days of being single. I had a few too many drinks, and I woke up late this morning.” “I see. I was so worried something had happened to you. Thank goodness for my uncle's subordinate, who happened to be passing by on that highway,” William said, pursing his lips, filled with gratitude toward his uncle.“It's a good thing his subordinate recognized you and brought you to the hospital. Otherwise, the consequences could have been unthinkable. We must thank my uncle and his subordinate properly.” “Heh? Thank him?” Eleanor hadn't expected that it was Henry's subordinate who had brought her to the hospital. A look of mockery flashed in her eyes. So Henry really *was* having her followed. This matter was inextricably linked to that man! The thought solidified her belief that the car accident was planned by Henry, specifically to stop her from marrying William! “Of course. My uncle's subordinate saved you; we have to thank them. You don't know, ever since we were young, my uncle has been the role model for the younger generation of the Van Orden family. He's the person I admire most!” William nodded heavily, his adoration for the high-and-mighty man written all over his face. Looking at her fiancé, who was about to walk down the aisle with her, Eleanor felt a wave of sorrow as she watched him worship such a beast in human clothing. Henry stood high above, immaculately dressed, and only she knew the truth of his face. It was pathetic that his nephew admired him so, when he had slept with his nephew's fiancée. He would stop at nothing to get her—drugging her wine, and now staging a car accident! Such a hypocritical, terrifying man was not worthy of William's admiration! “Do you really know Henry? Actually, he isn't what you imagine...” Just as she was about to expose Henry's true nature to this naive man, footsteps sounded from the entrance. They both turned to look toward the foyer. When Eleanor saw that figure, a flash of fear shot through her eyes. It was him. Henry. A simple Armani white shirt accentuated his tall, muscular frame. His face was strikingly handsome, and while he appeared modest, only Eleanor knew that the dominance and sharpness in his bones were impossible to conceal. “Uncle.” William looked at Henry. “I just came to see...” The corners of his mouth curled up slightly, his gaze landing meaningfully on the person in the bed.“My niece-in-law.” Hearing his words, Eleanor lowered her head, concealing the panic in her eyes, and said nothing. “The wedding should be postponed.” Henry’s lips pressed into a thin line. Hearing this, Eleanor snapped her head up. His statement only confirmed her suspicion; he certainly didn't want her and William to proceed with the wedding. The car accident must have been orchestrated by him, yet she had no proof. Her hand beneath the covers clenched the white sheets tightly. “I think it should be postponed too. Eleanor isn't in any condition to hold a wedding right now,” William nodded, then said with indignation.“The traffic police said there were no clues left at the scene. The driver who rear-ended you fled—it looks premeditated. I definitely need to investigate who did this. Uncle, please help me look into it as well. Who would dare touch a member of the Van Orden family?” “Rest assured, I will look into it.” Henry was calm and composed. Suddenly, William’s peripheral glance caught Eleanor’s neck. He frowned.“Eh? Baby, why is there a red patch on your neck? What happened?” Eleanor raised a hand to touch the red mark on her neck, and she instantly froze! Wasn't this the hickey that bastard Henry had left last night? She struggled to compose herself, feigning nonchalance as she said,“It's nothing. I was just bitten by a super big mosquito. I'll be careful next time; I certainly won't let that damned mosquito bite me again!” “Oh?” Henry leaned in close to Eleanor, his voice rich and laced with a hint of wickedness.“Such a wicked mosquito. Why didn't you just swat it, niece-in-law?” Eleanor glared at him, meeting Henry's eyes.“I wanted to swat him! If I could, I wouldn't have hesitated!” Henry stared at the woman's eyes, a cold mockery emanating from deep within his heart. This ungrateful woman—comparing him to a mosquito was one thing, but wanting him dead? She was truly a cruel woman! “Uncle, could you watch over Eleanor for a moment? I'm going to get Eleanor's medical report.” William didn't dwell on the issue further, turning to look at his uncle. Until only Eleanor and Henry remained in the ward. “Henry! Was it you? Was the car accident your doing?” Eleanor could no longer suppress the anger and hatred in her heart. She grabbed him by the collar and roared. “Tsk, tsk. Finally showing your true colors?” The man didn't mind in the least that she had grabbed his collar.“Or do you want your fiancé to see even more... traces?” Henry's ambiguous gaze roamed up and down Eleanor's body. “You bastard! Don't try to change the subject! Was it you or not? Why did you do this?” The only explanation she could think of for the accident was this man. And he looked so unconcerned; it was truly infuriating. “You haven't settled the score for sleeping with me yet.” He lifted her chin, pinning her body against his.“I will look into the car accident.” “Stop with the hypocritical act. It was definitely you!” she was furious.“You self-righteous beast!” “Beast?” He narrowed his sharp eyes, his gaze landing on her heaving chest, his tone dismissive.“That's certainly not what you said in my bed!”
