“Henry, there is no 'us' between us. Stop pestering me!” Eleanor raised her arm, barring her chest to stop the man from attempting to draw near again.
Henry swept her with a cold, angry gaze, his voice chilling.“I will ask you one last time. Will you break off the engagement with William?”
Eleanor’s clear, bright eyes met the man’s, her voice landing firmly.“No! You are a shameless old rogue!”
*Shameless old rogue?* A flame burned deep in Henry’s chest; he wanted to devour this woman instantly. In thirty years of life, this was the first time he had been rejected so decisively, and told he was old, by this reckless woman!
It infuriated him. Worse still, as the King of Real Estate in Los Angeles, he felt this rejection was a humiliation he could not abide.
Henry snorted coldly, the corner of his mouth curling into a bloodthirsty sneer.“Good! Very good! Eleanor, just excellent! It seems my performance wasn't enough to show you exactly how 'old' I am!”
As the words fell, he lunged forward, pinning her against the headboard.
Just as she panicked, about to scream and push him away, footsteps sounded from outside, accompanied by William’s voice.“Eleanor.”
She froze, instantly shrinking back meekly against the headboard, putting distance between herself and Henry, her expression assuming its usual aloofness.
Henry didn't look back; he knew exactly who stood at the entrance. He stood up slowly and spoke with deliberate calm.“Take good care of her. I have matters to attend to, so I’ll be leaving.”
“Take care, Uncle,” William replied respectfully.
The proud man merely nodded slightly, his long legs striding out of the ward.
Under William’s attentive care, Eleanor recovered quickly and was discharged from the hospital.
After leaving the hospital, William forced her to rest at home, leaving her utterly bored. One morning, she received a call from him.“Baby, I just received notice from the Dean that I have to go away for a while, so I won't be able to visit you every day. Are you bored at home alone?”
“Of course I'm bored; you won't even let me go out,” Eleanor pouted, complaining.
“Alright, alright. You can go out in a little while,” William said indulgently.
“Really? Why are you suddenly being so nice and letting me out?” Eleanor asked in surprise.
“I just got a call from the wedding planners. Our proposal is ready. Go take a look,” William said.
“Hmph, I knew you were suddenly being nice just to make me do manual labor.”
“You girl, taking advantage of my kindness and still complaining,” William said helplessly.
“Okay, okay, go do your rounds. I'm hanging up now. I'll freshen up and head out,” Eleanor said happily.
After hanging up, she applied some light makeup, grabbed her bag, and left. Having been cooped up at home for so many days, she could finally go out and breathe some fresh air.
Little did she know that in the shadows behind her, a black Maybach had been following her. Inside the car, a pair of sharp eyes stared fixedly at her, his expression obscured in the shifting light.
Upon arriving at the wedding planning company, they finalized the last details of the wedding. Having only just recovered, she felt a bit tired, so the staff invited her to the lounge to rest for a while.
Just then, the door quietly opened. Someone walked in and wrapped their arms around her waist from behind.
Thinking it was William, she frowned and spoke.“William, stop messing around!”
The next second, she realized too late that William had already gone out for his trip.
Her heart skipped a beat!
In an instant, a figure flashed through her mind, and a voice that chilled her to the bone whispered in her ear, causing her heart to leap into her throat.“You love my nephew so much? Yet you don't even know his body? Then again, I forgot... that night was your first time.”
“Henry!” In that moment, she was certain who was holding her. She struggled violently, shouting in rage,“Let go of me!”
“Heh! Why be so pretentious now that things have come to this?” The man's large hands clamped around her like iron vices!
“Let go of me!” Eleanor was so anxious she was on the verge of tears. With red eyes, she demanded,“William will be back from his rounds soon! Do you want him to see this?”
Eleanor’s entire body tensed up, terrified that someone outside might walk in and see their ambiguous, intimate pose!
If that happened, she wouldn't be able to explain herself even with a thousand words. What she feared most was being caught red-handed by her own fiancé, William.
Henry’s tone carried a hint of ambiguous meaning.“So he’s out on rounds? Even better.”
She knew exactly what he meant. She hadn't expected him to be so shameless, actually wanting to carry on this sordid, clandestine affair with her!
“You'll hurt him like this! What did he ever do to you that you would hurt him this way?” His scorching body pressed tightly against her back, causing her face to flush instantly, burning as if on fire.
“Fine, fine. Let's not hurt him then.” The man spoke as if soothing a child throwing a tantrum—helpless yet indulgent.“Silly girl, if you don't marry him, problem solved.”
“Impossible!” She rejected it without hesitation. No matter what, she had to marry William.“Are you really not afraid I'll expose what happened back then? For the sake of a woman, would you really choose to ruin your reputation?”
“And if I am? You underestimate me.” The corner of Henry’s mouth curled into a cool, thin arc as he leaned close to her ear.“I have never failed to get what I want. You slept with me and want to dodge responsibility? Not that easy!”
“Get away from me!” She struggled with all her might, pushing him away, tears brimming in her eyes as she shouted,“I love William!”
“Love my nephew? Heh! Your love is certainly fickle!” His amber eyes were deep as the vast galaxy. He curled his lips in amusement, looking down at her face, the smile in his eyes devoid of warmth.“Have you forgotten how passionate you were that night?”
“Spirited little kitten. I still have the teeth marks you left on my shoulder that night. Want me to take my shirt off and show you?” Henry’s bewitching voice rose again, husky and magnetic, with a distinct tenderness.
Eleanor was trapped on the sofa by him.
The shame and anger in her heart were enough to drive her insane!
Yet the detestable man still had a smile on his face. His slender, cool fingers lifted her chin, and he lowered his head to peck at her lips.“Very angry? Do you want to tear me to pieces and silence me?”
He was right; she really did want to kill him.
But she knew how formidable the man before her was; she was no match for him at all.
“What exactly do you want?” Eleanor roared, unable to bear it any longer.
“Two paths. One: Break up with him, and be with me. Two: After you marry him, we be together—one in the light, one in the dark. Even if you are married, it won't stop our affair.” He looked deeply at the woman beneath him, his lips curving with playful profundity, his words aggressive.“Now, give me your answer!”
