Léon's face turned pale as he listened to the person on the other end of the line. Aurélie could see the tension in his body, and she knew that something was wrong. "Qui est-ce?" she asked, trying to keep her voice low. Léon hesitated for a moment before answering. "It's my contact," he said. "The one who's been helping me stay one step ahead of... them." Aurélie's eyes narrowed. "What did they say?" she asked. Léon's eyes locked onto hers. "They said that... that someone has been asking questions about me," he said. "Someone who knows my real name." Aurélie felt a chill run down her spine. Who could be asking questions about Léon? And how did they know his real name? Suddenly, the doorbell rang, shrill and insistent. Léon's head snapped up, and he looked at Aurélie with a mixture of fear and warning. " Ignore it," Aurélie said, her voice firm. "We don't know who it is, and we're not going to take any chances." Léon nodded, his eyes still fixed on the door. The doorbell rang again, insistently, but Léon didn't move. Suddenly, the ringing stopped, and there was silence. Aurélie let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. "I think we should get out of here," Léon said, his voice low. "It's not safe." Aurélie nodded, her heart still racing. She knew that Léon was right - they couldn't stay here, not now. But as they turned to leave, Aurélie heard a faint noise coming from the hallway. It sounded like footsteps, light and cautious. Here's what happens next: Aurélie's heart was racing as she slowly made her way towards the hallway. Léon grabbed her arm, trying to hold her back. "Wait," he whispered. "It's not safe." But Aurélie shook him off. She had to know what was going on. She crept down the hallway, her eyes scanning the shadows. The footsteps had stopped, and there was an eerie silence. As she turned a corner, she saw a figure standing in the shadows. It was a woman, tall and slender, with piercing green eyes. The woman didn't move or speak. She just stood there, watching Aurélie. Aurélie felt a shiver run down her spine. Who was this woman? And what did she want? Suddenly, the woman stepped forward, her eyes locked onto Aurélie's. Aurélie stood her ground, her heart pounding in her chest. She looked the woman straight in the eye, trying to convey a sense of confidence and determination. "Who are you?" Aurélie demanded. "What do you want?" The woman smiled, a small, enigmatic smile. "My name is Sophie," she said. "And I'm here to warn you." Aurélie's eyes narrowed. "Warn me about what?" Sophie glanced around the hallway, as if checking to make sure they were alone. "You're in danger, Aurélie," she said. "Léon is not what he seems." Aurélie felt a surge of anger. Who was this woman to come into their lives and make accusations about Léon? "I don't believe you," Aurélie said, trying to keep her voice steady. Sophie's smile grew wider. "You don't know the truth about Léon's past," she said. "But I do. And I'm here to tell you." Aurélie's curiosity got the better of her. She wanted to know what Sophie was talking about. "What do you mean about Léon's past?" Aurélie asked, her voice firm but controlled. Sophie's smile faltered for a moment, and Aurélie saw a glimmer of something else in her eyes. Something almost like sadness. "Léon was involved in some very bad things," Sophie said, her voice low and serious. "Things that could get him killed." Aurélie felt a chill run down her spine. What was Sophie talking about? "What kind of things?" Aurélie asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Sophie hesitated, as if unsure of how much to reveal. "Léon used to work for a powerful organization," Sophie said finally. "An organization that did whatever it took to get what they wanted." Aurélie's eyes widened as the pieces started to fall into place. "You're talking about the organization that's been threatening him," Aurélie said. Sophie nodded. "Yes. They'll stop at nothing to silence him." Aurélie's eyes narrowed as she tried to understand Sophie's motivations. "Why are you telling me all of this?" Aurélie asked, her voice firm but curious. Sophie's expression changed, and for a moment, Aurélie saw a glimmer of vulnerability. "I'm trying to protect you," Sophie said, her voice soft. "You're in danger, Aurélie. And I don't want to see you get hurt." Aurélie was taken aback by Sophie's words. Why would Sophie care about her safety? "Who are you?" Aurélie asked again, trying to understand Sophie's connection to Léon and the organization. Sophie hesitated, as if unsure of how much to reveal. "I used to work with Léon," Sophie said finally. "We were both part of the organization. But I got out, Aurélie. I escaped." Aurélie's eyes widened as the pieces started to fall into place. "And now you're trying to help Léon escape too," Aurélie said. Sophie nodded, a small smile on her face. "Yes," Sophie said. "I am." Aurélie's mind was racing with questions, but she knew she had to focus on the present moment. "What do you need from me to help Léon?" Aurélie asked, trying to keep her voice steady. Sophie's expression turned serious. "I need you to convince Léon to leave Paris with me," Sophie said. "We have to get him out of the city before it's too late." Aurélie felt a surge of uncertainty. Could she really trust Sophie? "Why should I trust you?" Aurélie asked, trying to stall for time. Sophie's eyes locked onto Aurélie's. "Because I'm the only one who can save Léon's life," Sophie said. "And I need your help to do it." Aurélie felt a shiver run down her spine. She didn't know what to do. Just then, Léon appeared in the doorway, his eyes scanning the room as if searching for something. "Aurélie, what's going on?" Léon asked, his voice low and urgent. Aurélie took a deep breath and turned to Léon. "Sophie wants us to leave Paris with her," Aurélie said, trying to gauge Léon's reaction. Léon's eyes narrowed, and he looked at Sophie with a mixture of suspicion and curiosity. "Why?" Léon asked, his voice firm. Sophie stepped forward, her eyes locked onto Léon's. "Because it's not safe for you here," Sophie said. "The organization will stop at nothing to silence you. But I can help you disappear." Léon's expression didn't change, but Aurélie could sense the tension in his body. "I don't know if I can trust you," Léon said finally. Sophie's face fell, but she quickly recovered. "I understand," Sophie said. "But I'm willing to do whatever it takes to prove myself to you." Aurélie watched as Sophie pulled out a small folder from her bag and handed it to Léon. "What's this?" Léon asked, opening the folder. Sophie smiled. "It's proof of my loyalty," Sophie said. "And it's the key to our escape." Here's what happens next: Léon's eyes scanned the contents of the folder, his expression unreadable. Aurélie leaned in, trying to get a glimpse of what was inside. "What is it?" Aurélie asked, her curiosity getting the better of her. Léon looked up, his eyes locking onto Aurélie's. "It's a dossier on the organization," Léon said, his voice low. "Sophie has been gathering intelligence on them for months." Aurélie's eyes widened as she realized the significance of the folder. This could be the key to taking down the organization and keeping Léon safe. "How did you get this?" Léon asked Sophie, his eyes narrowing. Sophie smiled. "Let's just say I have my ways," Sophie said. "But this is just the beginning. We need to get out of Paris and regroup before we can take on the organization." Léon nodded, his expression thoughtful. "Okay," Léon said. "We'll leave with you. But we need to be careful. We don't know who we can trust." Aurélie felt a surge of relief. They were going to get out of Paris and start fresh. But as she looked at Sophie, she couldn't shake the feeling that they were walking into a trap.
