EVENING — INTERIOR
ANNA’S ROOM
A quiet room filled with books.
ANNA, a young teenage girl and the only child of her parents, sits in her carefully arranged reading corner. Books surround her, on the floor, on the desk, and stacked beside her.
Anna loves reading. She can spend hours buried in books, researching things that most people her age would probably find boring.
Tonight, six books lie open in front of her.
She flips through one, compares it with another, scribbles a few notes, then returns to the first.
Whatever she is searching for, she is determined to find it.
Earlier that day, Anna had discovered an old book hidden inside an enclosed section of her father’s garage. She had no idea why it was there.
She reaches for a book beside her.
Her hand searches the floor.
Nothing.
Unknowingly, she picks up the old book from the garage instead.
Without looking at the cover, she opens it and begins flipping through the pages.
ANNA
Page 118…
She stops.
Her eyes move across the page.
Something isn’t right.
She looks at the book beside her, then back at the one in her hands.
ANNA
Wait…
She compares the references again.
They don’t correspond.
Anna frowns.
Then something catches her attention.
The writing is strange, an ancient looking language she has never knowingly studied.
Yet somehow…
she understands every word.
Her expression changes from confusion to fascination.
She slowly reads a few lines under her breath.
A beat.
She closes the book.
Then realizes her mistake.
ANNA
Oops.
She looks at the book in disbelief.
ANNA
Little wonder.
She turns it over, examining the mysterious cover.
A small smile appears.
ANNA
But this book is quite interesting.
She places it carefully on the desk.
Anna pulls out a sticky note and writes:
“Will read the piles in 2 days.”
She sticks it onto the book.
After a moment, she gets up and walks toward the restroom.
The room falls silent.
The camera slowly moves toward the old book.
Its pages remain still.
Then—
FLIP.
One page turns by itself.
CUT TO BLACK.
