Chapter 17
Cillian
I was sitting in Joanna’s kitchen, a room larger than most studio apartments, Sitting at the largest island bench with a hardwood top which had herbs and books scattered across it. The sweet scent of cinnamon waft in the air the sound of a pot simmering pared to it. Joanna was standing at stove stirring adding a variety of ingredients to it when she turned to face me, seeing my gaze at the stove she rebutted “It is a stew not a potion” she laughed. I smiled as it had not even crossed my mind that she would be using her kitchen to cook. “Now let’s talk about this issue about your mate” she said “Not all wolves find their mate by 20” I laughed, Joanna face looked serious “that is true, but you are 24 and I sense from your wolf that you have a mate a complete heart which is very interesting.” she said before I could speak, she asked “Are you shifting more these days? Feeling over heated?” The look on my face must have been pure shock, how did she know this? “Yes, I am shifting every day and just feel really uncomfortable in my human skin” I responded “But you say you have not met your mate yet?” she asked “No, I am not mated.” explained “Cillian what do you know about the mating process?” Joanna asked, I it seemed like a strange question to ask I thought “Well, I guess when you find your mate you have heighten sense of smell its intoxicating and when you touch it is electric” I responded “they are the mating reactions not the process, You see when your Wolf recognises their mate they start a biological change, overheating, lack of sleep and that feeling of needing to be in your wolf form more, being drawn to places you normally do not go to. It is your body adjusting itself in preparation for your mate’s soul, it is generally only temporary as the mate reactions, scent, touch indicate that you have found your mate which results in marking one another.” Joanna Explained “I met someone a few weeks back, when I touched her there was no radiating sparks her scent is no existent, but my mind is infatuated with her it is like I need to be around her” I was embarrassed to say, I hand not spoke of Delphine to anyone, Saying it out loud sounded so very stupid and pathetic. “The mating pull is very complex, yes the intoxicating smell and the radiating touch are part of it however having your soul drawn to them is another part which is generally overshadowed by the other two. “It sounds like a mate block” Joanna mumbled. She stood in front of me and pulled out a grimoire and removed her glasses from her head started to flick through the pages. “I am sorry Joanna what do you mean mate block” I was confused “Sometimes a wolf has a mate block where they are missing all the signs to confirm they have found their mate; it can be natural and will resolve over time or it can be caused by a spell” she said looking up at me as she turned to book to show me a page. I was shocked as it never crossed my mind that I could be blocked that this could happen, I thought maybe Delphine’s wolf was not ready or maybe the was a chance we were not mates and I just had an intense crush. The pages were old discoloured, and illustration of a wolf and a crescent moon sat on the top of the page I skimmed for what I could see there enough it is stated mate suppressant “I’ve never heard of this before” I admitted scrolling down the page with my index finger. “It is not common to have a natural block it is very rare, the ones that I do know of are not natural blocks but are spells, potions” “why would someone want to put a spell on someone to block their mate, finding your mate is one of the most special moments in a wolf's life.” I asked, it was perplexing for me to think that someone would want to block the mate pull. Joanna’s looked at me and without a flinch “Jealousy, of course” “But we don’t even know if that’s even the case with me, it could just mean that I haven’t met my mate” I said, “You said before that you’ve noticed that your body has started to overheat frequently you mentioned that your body is uncomfortable in human form and lastly met somebody, somebody that your mind is drawn to with which I would assume coincides around the same time. All of these indicating that you have a mate block however where we go from now is to work out is it a natural or has someone help with it?” “And how do we do that” I asked returning my gaze to the wolf and the crescent moon illustration. “We will need to do spell, it is a simple one, I’ll need a sample of your blood, not too much.” Joanna was so casual about it, without even thinking I picked up the athame that was next to chopping board and cut the palm of my hand, Joanna swiftly put a bowl under my clasped hand where blood dripped into it. “No, we didn’t need this much blood, we could have just taken a prick from your finger, “She laughed she added various other ingredients of her shelves pruning cutting into a mortar where she rolled the pestle through it until it was fine dust. In what I would de scribe as a travel size Caldron she places the dust in the bottom of it she lit match dropping it in as it started to flame, she dripped my blood on top of it purple and Amber sparks came out of it a zapping sound in rhythm to the sparks. “Is it supposed to do that?” I asked, “This good! is it working”, Joanna’s exclaimed with a smiled, as the sparks died down Joanna placed her hand over the caldron after some time, she lifted her hand up and studied her palm of her hand another. “You have had a mate block spell put on you, it is very recent” she said, as her brows turned in to a slight frown. “So how do we fix it” I eagerly asked, knowing that there was a chance that my infatuation with Delphine could be something motivated me “Not too sure, however we may need to find the original witch that cast the spell, blocking spells are rather complex not just any witch can cast them” she explained “so, what do we do then?” I felt overwhelmed within an hour I had found out that someone had put a spell on me that was preventing me from finding my mate, I mate that I believed to be Delphine. Why would someone want me not to find my mate? I could not think of a single person who would do this. “I am going to have to research this further Cillian, but until I have an answer continue to shift as much as possible” she directed. I left Joanna with a whirlwind of feelings, could I have found my mate and who would want to put a spell like that on me I thought. I made it home and put on the game and slumped in my seat, I pulled out my phone
