Chapter 18 Delphine “Leora! You are being insufferable exclaimed as I was corned into a change room by my sister. “You are making this harder than it should be, Delphine,” she said as she zipped up the blue Satin dress that she forced me into trying on. She pushed me out of the cubical to where Kayla and Charlie were sitting, both exhausted from 6 hours of shopping they were slumped on ottomans, bags spread out around them. Both took one look and laughed hysterically, Leora placed her hands on her hips displeased. “Oh wow! That is spectacular” Mae squealed as she came out of another cubical waring a peach taffeta dress that seems to be paired well with her peals. “I looked in the mirror, the dress was not me, it is draped sleeves made me look like a bird I thought, that and mermaid tail it was definitely a snow angle look. “You hate it, don’t you” Leora said reading my facial expression as she stood next to me. Her mouth curling into a frown, she reaches over to a rack and pulled out a deep red gown and hands it to me “This is the last one” she said pushing me back into the cubicle. She turns and looks at Mae, giving her the Manhattan once over “That dress is hideous Mae, this looks like a bridesmaid dress from the 80s, it is a masquerade ball” I laugh as I close the curtain seeing Leora start handing Mae dresses, Leora had been down for the last week, preparing for her trip to bora bora with Arlo. I shimmied the red dress on and waved to Leora to come and zip it up which she obliged, I stepped out into the room, it hugged my curves nicely and was the best dress I had seen. “Gorgeous!” Leora exclaimed with a proud look on her face. “It looks fantastic “Kayla said giving me two thumbs up as Charlie agreed. Mae exited her cubical wearing the dress from Leora, her gown looking especially regal in grey with a cuff shoulder. I smiled at Mae and told her she looked beautiful as she blushed and returned to get changed. We all walked out of the store our hands full of bags where two town cars waited the Chauffeurs taking our bags and proceeding to load them into the boot. Charlie, Mae, and Kayla exchanged goodbye to Leora then sliding into the car leaving just Leora and I on the sidewalk. “This was fun” I said as Leora embraced me in a hug. “Yes, it was the best day” she said squeezing me back. “You look really happy, I am glad” she said “I am really happy Leora” I agreed “Have you met someone? you have that met someone glow” I blushed slightly to which Leora nodded her head. “I am not sure, maybe” I said, she crinkled her nose temporarily at me “You will have the most fantastic time this weekend Delphine, sorry we cannot be there, but it is Bora Bora!” We hugged again and I got into the car resting my head back on the head rest. I did wish that Leora and Arlo could have attended the masquerade ball, it was Leora’s favourite out of all the events. I still had not heard from Varouk after Cillian told me about his encounter at the council meeting. I closed my eyes listening to Kayla and Mae debating about hair and accessories, Charlie leaned in close to my ear whispering so low that I could Barely hear him “Dreaming about him?” I side glanced Charlie and rolled my eyes as he chuckled to himself. In the last few weeks Mae had been more pent up than her usual self, Charlie and Mae were constantly at each other, Charlie felt that her heartbroken obsession was ridiculous, and Mae just could not tolerate Charlie’s outspoken remarks.
