Chapter 6

My preferred thing to do in Providence city was to go to Elphaba café where I would sit in their olive-green velvet lounge chairs and drink endless amounts of coffee and read books in silence. I could be there for hours, amerced in whichever gripping story feeling in complete ease and disconnected from the realities of life. It was finally Saturday, and I gathered my new book walked the moderate distance to Elphaba where I could see that they had already put the fire on in anticipation for the storm that was rolling in. I ordered my coffee and made my way to my most favourite seat by the fire with a little gold table next to it where I placed my coffee. I was only four chapters in when someone sat right across from me and out of habit I looked up and saw a charismatic smile. “Hey, Delphine” he said, running his hands through his wet hair, it must have started raining since I arrived, I thought as I closed my book and placed it onto lap “Hi” I replied restraining a smile “It is Cillian” he said giving a somewhat cheeky grin “I know” I replied with smile and picked up my coffee taking a small sip whist regarding him “Do you come here often” Cillian asked whilst looking around at the cafe, by this time it was somewhat busy mostly due to the rain I thought where people had escaped of the street. Elphaba from the street was not that appealing, dark, and uninviting I wouldn’t say many humans would frequent here. It was relatively spacious with miss matched tables and chairs scattered throughout with sim lamps and two fireplaces at either end. “Yes, I have been coming here for a fair while I just love the atmosphere, what about you?” I replied as I reclined back into the chair crossing my legs, my leather skirt slightly riding up to which Cillian’s eyes flickered to and back to my face instinctively I moved my angle and adjusted myself. “I have not been her recently” Cillian responded and moved his chair closer; I was not sure if it was to me or to the fire his proximity was close that I could feel his body radiating heat that rivalled the fire and his heart beating in conjunction to his chest rising. “I don’t think we really got to speak at the ball, what pack are you from?” His eyes peering into mine, his gaze was somewhat enchanting I thought hazel eyes speckled with gold. “I am from Burvich so pretty far away from here” I replied “I have never been there, your King is very young, isn’t he?” Cillian asked “Yes, King Varouk is a little young, however he is a great leader,” I said, I never tell people that Varouk is my brother, often people know who he is due to stories about him from batters or rumours about his tyrant behaviour “Where are you from” I asked “I am from the Alceid Kingdom, it is probably very different from where you are from,” I could see his admiration for his home which is something I shared for my own home. From forested valleys to the to the large rocky coastline of an artic sea it was different to the Alceid Mountains where lush green hills rolled into large valleys with snow covered mountains that contrasted with their floral forest floors. We continue to talk about our homes, school and then about books, I was pleasantly surprised how well read he was and many of the books I loved he also had read and had some interesting interpretations on them. We must have been there for hours laughing and drinking coffee until we were interrupted by a sever as it was closing time and we had been so enthralled in our conversations to even notice that it was dark out. “Which dorm are you in” Cillian asked “Selket house, not far from here” I replied as I stood up pulling my jacket on “I will walk you back to your dorm” Cillian said resting his hand against my lower back guiding me out the door. “You don’t have to; I can take care of myself” I smiled hoping that he didn’t accept as his hand still lingered on my back. “I am sure you can, however I would not be a gentleman if I did not escort you back” he replied with a smile holding my gaze he opened my umbrella as the rain started to fall increasing his proximity to me. We walked and talked the entire 20 minuets to my dorm, the melodious sound or rain confining us together until we reached the gates. He handed me the umbrella as we stood there in a moment of silence both considering what to say next. “You should probably take this; you will be drenched walking without it” I said handing him back the umbrella. “I guess we will have to have another date then so I can return it” he said with a smile, I laughed. “This was not a date! It was a chance encounter” I sarcastically remarked mimicking his smile. He leant down, kissed my cheek his warm lips causing me to blush. “Well, the next one will be” he exclaimed. I smiled and briskly walked through the gates up the stairs towards the dorm doors, before entering I glanced back at him still standing there as he waved; I waved back and pushed through the doors. My heart beating, how pathetic was I acting over a wolf that was not my mate I thought to myself, but I could not shake my desire for him.
