Cillian
“Nothing exciting happens at these events” I mutter looking at my brother Brodric as I recline back into my seat, a waitress hands me a drink that a swell around before taking a sip, I use to enjoy these events yet for the last two years or so they had become a chore now that my attendance was not my choice but out of obligation. Brodric nodded in agreement as we both knew that while our father and mother are traveling to each town in their kingdom, we are to attend all these events to represent the family. I nurse my drink in my hands as Brodric looks back to his phone where he continues typing a message to his partner Zara, I am envious of him in a way as at 20 he has found her, and they are inseparable and the most perfect fit. I was never too bothered about being alone before, even though there is a great deal of pressure from my mother as the first prince of Alceid to have a partner by my side when I take the throne however it was not my top priory until seeing Brodric and Zara together which opened my mind to the possibility of finding someone someday. Brodric described it to me as a magnetic pull and that her scent is incredibly infatuating which makes his head dizzy and that when you are apart your heart longs for them and that even just a simple touch makes your heartbeat and sends radiating sparks throughout your body. It was not new knowledge to me because all wolves were aware of what the mating pull was; nonetheless I believe that hearing it from Brodric and seeing just how it affects him made it more real in a manner. We had spoken about it over the years, musing at every wolf we knew that went from being harden and crass to melting saps all for a girl even for girls that they had known their entire lives and not noticed prior. We truly did not understand how you blindly surrender with no self-control, it was something bigger than us, something ancient and spiritual unique to wolves which I thought was a curse yet now I am not so sure. I was pulled out of my thoughts when the one and only Zara collapsed into Brodric’s lap, he instinctively moves her red hair a side as he nuzzles into her neck as she lets out a giggle.
“Oh god! Stop it you two, can you guys even be trusted to be out of your room and in public yet” I say forcing my face to scour at them.
“One day Cillian you will find your mate and you will be doing to same” Zara laughed as Brodric wraps his arms around her waist nodding in agreement.
“Let’s not hold our breath” I say, keeping up my rouge of being somewhat content of being alone. Within an hour our group of 6 started slamming drinks down fast, I have to say Zara really does carry her own amongst us, even Javier our notorious bachelor party boy had warmed up to her faster than what he had to Jules Marco’s mate who had returned from the bar with shots for the table.
“Not shots!” Marco exclaimed holding his hand to his mouth mimicking him gaging.
“Too soon is It Marco?” Javier mocked shanking Marco’ shoulders to which we all laughed. Still laughing glanced over my shoulder where my eyes focus on another girl across the room laughing.
“Hey Marco, who is that girl over there” I ask directing him to her
“That’s Kayla Yin, she is part of your Kingdom, her parents are both doctors” Marco said running his hands though his auburn hair getting it out of his face.
“No, not Kayla! The one next to her, with the dark hair in the green dress” I retorted as I roll my eyes at him, I knew Kayla as her sister Megan was in some of the same classes as me in high school. Marco strained to see, having to stand up just to get a glimpse of the girl I was talking about.
“I have no idea who that is Cillian” he shrugged and went back to the conversation that the others were having. I continued to look at her laughing, sun-kissed olive skin, her black hair was dishevelled and pulled up into a messy bun with pieces framing her face, a face that I was drawn to. As she broke free of her group, I took it as my opportunity to meet her, something I usually would not do.
“I am getting some food” I said to the group before making my way through the crowd towards her, the closer I got to her I realised just how slender she was compared to other wolves as we generally had more athletic physiques.
“I don’t think I have ever seen you here before” I said, she turned to face me bringing her champagne glass to her lips taking a small slip. Her hazel green eyes sparkled as she smiled,
“It is my first time attending” she proclaimed resting her free hand on her hip
“I am Cillian” I said holding my hand out to her, her eyes looked at my hand and back to me “Delphine” she replied shaking my hand, her skin was not soft, more callus then mine I thought
“How are you finding it tonight” I ask, small talk was not something that I was used to doing. I was generally more comfortable staying in silence.
“It is nice” she replied tucking a bit of hair behind her ear
“Nice?” I sarcastically responded as I darted my eyes to the lavish surroundings of the ballroom. “Okay it is gorgeous, yet I am finding it a little boring" she said with a smile, I laughed in agreement. “So, where are you from” I asked but before she was able to answer our attention was drawn to the sounds of her name being called, she looked over her shoulder towards her friends and waved toward them.
“I have to go" she remarked,
"Guess I will see you at another one of these" I replied giving her a smile, knowing I sounds pathetic why I even said it I was unsure of.
“I guess you will” She’s replied, returning a smile, she stated walking toward her friend her green gown cascading like a waterfall to the floor, she was of tall height if we were comparing her to a human however on the smaller side for a werewolf barely reaching 5ft10 she had more delicate features which was rare in werewolves as naturally we are broader. I watched her as she walked away then she stopped to look back and gave a wave which I returned before heading towards my own group while separate group of young males I picked up on their conversation.
“Look at Delphine what a b***h” he said, the acidic tone poured from his mouth,
"Move on Cole" the other replied as this Cole pushed him storming towards the bar, the other two slowly following him
“So, you know Delphine” I said to the one called Cole as he stomped by, when he looked at me, it was clear that he was irate being intoxicated was not helping the anger pouring from him.
“She is super b***h” he huffed as he pushed past me, I instantly felt angry was about to say something when his friend interjected
“Don’t worry about Cole, he is just upset as he wanted to date her, and she wasn’t interested”
“So much anger over that” I asked
“that’s just him” he replied as he gave me a shrug as he followed him. As I reached my chair everyone had started to leave so I picked up my jacket beside Brodric and Zara pulling my arms through it as they both stood to face me.
“Where were you” Brodric asked, I shrugged at him
“Making friends” I said with a smirk.
“You don’t make friends” Brodric exclaimed with a laugh.
“Maybe I do now”
