After a 2-hour run in human form this morning I was more motivated to focus on my studies than on previous days, I was a head of my study schedule with almost all pending assignments completed or pending their final draft. It was a day without rain, so we all congregated outside to soak up as much sun as possible before the sun disappeared and clouds emerge consuming the sky, it was fall and the leaves had started to change colour, yet the sun was shining and even the banshees seemed more positive. Classes for the rest of the day were tiresome. The time had seemed to be dragging by even my historical development class just was not providing me the usual satisfaction as I found myself drifting in and out of daydreams. I forced myself to go to the library to finalise a report that was not even close to being due, I could see Mae profusely writing in a cubical and Kayla was across the other side of the room with her latest beau flirting rather than studying. I had finished my work over an hour ago sitting next to Charlie who was busy doing research for his mum. “What are you doing” I whispered to him, intrigued on what task Joanna had set for him, Joanna would often set Charlie tasks here and there a small incantation or a potion, whatever task was set for him Charlie would always achieve it. Although socially flashy Charlie was rather modest about his magic which was somewhat different to other witches at Ivenloch who seemed to get a power trip every time they do a spell.
“Trying to work out how to create a tracking spell without an anchor” he said, his eyes never shifting from the grimoire he was studying.
"Why do you have to do that” I asked, it was a far cry from the stuff Joanna normally gets Charlie to-do, I would even say it would be impossible even for him or maybe even for Joanna
“I don’t know, but she said she needs it for the council” this time he stopped and looked me straight in the eye
“You can’t tell anyone about this, okay?” he pleaded
“Of course, Charlie, I would not tell anyone” I proclaimed, council business is the most important business as all Fae are bound by a Fae Law. Varouk explained it to me once saying although he is the King of our territories, we all still answer to the Council once representative per Fae sat on the council.
“Why does the council need a tracking spell” I asked “I am not sure, all mum said was that they needed one and if I could help locate one” Charlie replied while still flicking pages of the book at rapid speed.
“Are you close?” I asked
“No, it is almost impossible to have a tracking spell with nothing to track but mum is sure they must be one somewhere” Charlie explained, he glanced up at me and gave me a half smile, yet we were pulled away by Mae and Kayla who were arguing whilst standing at my desk, Charlie rubbed his temple in frustration and slammed his book shut startling the girls into silence.
“Mae said she isn’t coming out for Halloween as it is a pointless party” Kayla remarked, she had lowered her books onto my desk to place her hands on her hips. Before I could speak Mae interrupted “That is not what I said Kayla” Mae retorted
“Why are you not wanting to go” I asked
“I am just not in the mood to be social, I just need a break” she replied
“You are not wanting to go because Brodric found his mate? You need to get over that” Charlie interjected
“I am over it! I just don’t need to go” Mae responded, you could see by her frown that Charlie was right Mae didn’t want to see Brodric and his Mate. I was not sure why Mae was so upset, she barely knew Brodric, they danced once at a school event when they were much younger, but nothing ever came of it.
“Who cares if they are there Mae, you never know your mate might be there” I said trying to be supportive as Kayla smirked and nodded.
“He was supposed to be my mate” she muttered and collected her books and walked out of study hall in a huff she was naturally dramatic, but this was just silly.
“What does she even mean by that” I asked, the mate bond was solid there are no mistakes or send chances it is what it is I thought to myself.
“She believes there has been a mistake” Kayla remarked rolling her eyes
“A mistake?” Charlie asked,
“Yes, she thinks Brodric finding his mate is a mistake and that he is her one true mate. I have tried to explain to her that it isn’t the case, and that Brodric is not her mate he is the mate of someone else, but she just will not budge”
“She needs to get laid” Charlie interjected.
“She needs to find her actual mate so she can move on” Kayla remarked to which Charlie, and I nodded in agreement.
“What are you two doing anyways” Kayla asked looking down at the piles of books spiralled across the table
“Nothing exciting” Charlie remarked and started to gather all the books up as I packed up my bag. The three of us walked back got the dorm to get ready for the party, Halloween already I thought and luckily for us the Dhampir’s have always hosted the best Halloween parties.
