The music pounded through the air, each beat trembling in the walls. Sharp flashes of light carved through the haze, barely cutting the heavy mix of smoke and the sharp sting of alcohol that clung to every breath. Tia shivered. A high ringing hummed in her ears, shrinking her world to a narrow, dizzy space. Her gaze darted left and right. Every sight made her flinch, everything here too strange, too wild, too far from the life she knew. Just as she was about to push her way inside, her phone buzzed. The moment she saw the caller ID, she grinned to herself. “Yeah?” “Where are you?” the voice on the other end asked. “I’m outside, but Nina’s at the dorm. She’s alone, if that’s what you’re wondering. Oh, and I probably won’t go home tonight, so feel free to enjoy your little quality time.”
