We Are Adults, Aren't We?

“Oh, damn it! why did it turn out like this? Where’s the way out again? Abe should be held responsible for this mess,” Nina muttered as she wiped sweat from her brow. They had gathered plenty of wood, but now they were lost in the forest, surrounded by trees that looked all the same, the path behind them swallowed by the thick green. Loyd only shrugged, his silence heavier than the woods around them. Since she had said she wanted to end things, he hadn’t spoken much. Something inside him stung, an ache he wasn’t used to. It wasn’t pride alone, but a kind of bruised longing. For a man who could have anyone, it was absurd that this one woman could undo him so completely. “Doubt it,” he murmured at last, his tone dry. Nina shot him a glare over her shoulder. “Oh, great. Lost in the middle of the forest with a man whose name has only one syllable.” He smirked faintly, though his eyes didn’t share the humor. “Worse than being stuck with a girl who asked me to forget the best night of my life right after agreeing to be mine?” Her breath caught. “Why are you still so sensitive about that? You’re a playboy, Loyd. You can find someone better than me.” He stopped walking, looking at her with an expression that made the air feel heavier. “What if I don’t want to?” The words slipped between them, sharp and tender all at once. Nina turned away quickly, her face warming despite herself. “Y—you should want to. It’s easy for you. I’ve seen how you change girls like you’re changing shirts,” she said, forcing a laugh that cracked slightly in the middle. Loyd gave a low chuckle that wasn’t quite amused. “That’s different. They meant nothing. Tell me, Nina, what exactly did I do wrong? You didn’t want anyone to know about us, I respected that. I kept your secret. So why are you punishing me for it now? Should I have told everyone from the start?” “H-hey,” she stammered, eyes wide. “No one knows I even went to that masquerade.” He took a step closer, his voice quiet but full of meaning. “Maybe I should also tell them how I knew you were there that night.” She froze, her lips parting in surprise. Her heart raced, a sudden chill creeping beneath her skin. “Why can’t you just let it go, Loyd?” she whispered, her tone trembling like a candle flame. “Because I don’t want to let you go,” he said simply. “Why not?” His voice rose sharper than before, a tremor of frustration buried within the sound. Loyd’s patience was thinning. He couldn’t understand how she could speak so calmly after cutting him off as though what they’d shared meant nothing. “Because I like you, okay?” The confession came rough and breathless, as though torn from him. He swallowed hard, his throat dry. “I wanted more time. I wanted you and me, not just the stolen nights or the glances no one sees. I wanted us to be real. But you—” he laughed bitterly “—you made me feel like a fool, like I should hide what you and I had, like it was some kind of crime.” Nina’s brows drew together, her lips parting slightly. “That’s not what I meant,” she murmured, her tone small against the storm of his words. “Look at me, Loyd. I’m just… me. A nerd who reads too much and talks too little. You’re popular. You’re the kind of man people notice. I only wanted a one-night stand, something reckless. Relationships like that aren’t meant to last longer than a few hours.” “But I wanted more, Nina.” His voice softened, a raw plea threaded between syllables. “We’re too different.” Her gaze dropped to the ground; her shoe scuffed at the soil, tracing uncertain lines. “Maybe I was out of my mind to say yes to you at all. You make it sound like I’m special, but you’ve said those same things to a dozen other girls, haven’t you? You flirt, you play, you move on. I’d rather know my place than pretend to be anything more than a mistake.” He stared at her, disbelief flickering in his eyes. “So that’s what you think of me? That I was just playing?” “I think,” she whispered, “that it’s easier if we both stop pretending. You can go back to being you, and I can go back to being invisible. No one has to know, no one gets hurt.” Silence stretched between them, deep and heavy as fog. The forest seemed to hold its breath. Then Loyd stepped closer. His movements were slow, deliberate, like a man crossing a fragile bridge that might break beneath him. “So what now?” he asked quietly. “We’re adults, aren’t we? We can do whatever we want.” His hand lifted, fingers trembling only slightly as they brushed against her arm before sliding around her waist. She stiffened but didn’t pull away. “We, uh…” Nina was caught off guard when Loyd closed the distance between them. “We should hurry and deliver this wood to them.” “They can wait,” Loyd insisted, pushing her backward until her back met the rough surface of a large tree, knocking the branches from her hands. Without another word, he caught her lips in a desperate kiss. It had been three weeks since he last tasted her, and now that he finally could again, the hunger in him was impossible to contain. He pressed his knee between her legs, the movement brushing against the softness of her inner thighs, drawing a faint whimper from her lips that melted into his mouth. "We are in public," Nina tried to remind him as Loyd's lips parted from hers, but it did not stop Loyd's intention to devour her completely. Instead, Loyd trapped her between himself and a large tree behind her, while he moved his lips to Nina's neck. "We are in the forest," he corrected. Nina moaned as Loyd found the most sensitive spot she loved. Especially when he licked and sucked there, giving a wild sensation, and Nina lost the strength to resist him anymore. "But if we don't return soon, they will worry and might come looking for us," Nina protested even though her body was completely weak. Loyd finally withdrew and released his grip on Nina. He looked at the girl's face, already flushed with a gaze filled with a haze of desire. "So you want us to stop now?" Loyd asked, intending to tease her. He looked at Nina with heavy eyelids and breath that was already gasping. "No!" In an unexpected move, Nina grabbed the top of the shirt Loyd was wearing and stole another kiss from him. The kiss started to blaze and burn, reigniting the flame of passion that had briefly died down earlier. Loyd lifted Nina's body so that her legs could wrap around his waist and pushed her back against the tree to lean on it. "I want to put it in." "Do it." Without much foreplay, Loyd entered her. Pressing himself to feel the warmth he longed for again. Enjoying how delightful it was to be inside Nina, feeling the sensation of her warm and unboring grip. The friction created was accompanied by the woman's breaths and moans, followed by low growls from the man. They moved in the same harmony with hard and fast motions, competing with each other to reach release. “Ugh… f**k, Nina,” Loyd said into her neck. “This is all I could think about for the past three weeks. I want to be inside you. I miss you,” he said. Nina moaned hearing those words and gave Loyd a strong grip there once again, making sure her legs wrapped around the man's waist. “Nghh… Loyd.” A sigh slipped from Nina's lips. That was enough to make Loyd burn even more with passion and speed up his pace like a man going wild. Nina screamed because of the sudden invasion, but her voice quickly turned into moans and pleas as Loyd punished her now. The tension that Loyd had held back for weeks disappeared with every thrust and pull he made. Loyd's mouth returned to the woman's neck as he moved in and out of Nina repeatedly. “f**k, this feels so good,” Loyd murmured into Nina’s neck, increasing the pace inside her. Nina moved her hips to match, providing fulfillment so that they were both in the same symphony. “Ahhh… Loyd!” It didn’t take long for Loyd to realize that his partner was close to the edge. The combination of teasing and anticipation drove him crazy with need. “Ung, harder,” Nina demanded, wrapping her arms tighter around the man’s shoulders. Loyd tightened his grip on Nina’s hips and began moving himself brutally. Nina screamed, lost in the overwhelming sensation of climax. Likewise, Loyd bit Nina’s neck immediately. “f**k, f**k, f**k,” he repeated, continuing to thrust uncontrollably inside the limp Nina. Immersing himself and holding Nina tightly as he felt his release arrive. When he felt normal again, Loyd lowered Nina and sat near a tree to lean back, and Nina did the same, leaning against his chest. They were both a mess. Loyd’s voice was still rough with lingering desire as he whispered against her skin. “So, we’re not ending this, are we?” Nina turned slightly to face him, her breath brushing his cheek. “You want me again?” He let out a quiet chuckle. “You know I’m easy to persuade,” he murmured, his lips grazing just beneath her ear. “Then…” Nina hesitated, searching his eyes. “You still want to keep this going?” Loyd smiled, a slow, knowing curve of his lips. “How could I ever say no?” The silence that followed was thick with warmth and the pulse of something unspoken. Then, without another word, he drew her closer, and the air between them caught fire once more.
