10 The next afternoon, Quinn took a taxi to Tarek’s apartment, and they had a late lunch and watched a soccer game. After the game, Tarek took his cell phone from his pocket and set it on the table. Placing a finger on his lips, he indicated that Quinn should do the same. Baffled, Quinn pulled his iPhone out and set it beside Tarek’s cheap Nokia. “Come,” Tarek said. “We will take a walk.” Mohamed and Suraiya came with them. They strolled out into the market street, and then down a street of sweetmeat vendors. Tarek took Quinn in a new direction today, out along the train tracks, into an area that was, if possible, even poorer than the one in which he lived.
