My heart sank as soon as Aiden left, leaving a vaping hole in the room. I could feel the nervous thumping of my heart for my friend who is in danger of being caught red-handed.
I flew my hand to my throat, my fingers digging into the soft fabric of my collar. The memory of the bitter taste of the drink, the sudden dizziness, the terrifying feeling of losing control, all came flooding back. It was a betrayal, a deliberate attempt to harm me, and it never crossed my mind that it would be Mara.
We were friends, confidantes, and almost sisters.
I don't see any reason for her to betray me like this. She would never attempt to hurt me in any way.
