Chapter 42

1046 Words

The hallway is dimly lit and narrow, lit by candles lining either side of the wall. Felix walks behind me, his steps heavy and echoing in the hallway. The stone walls are barren, except for the candles. There are no windows, too. It smells stuffy and it is suffocatingly hot—sweat rolls down my back, making my shirt cling to my skin. It’s very uncomfortable. It’s so strange, I think. That room I just left is beautiful, yet this hallway is… chilling—very creepy. Walking down this hallway feels endless like we’re not even moving at all, as if we’re walking in a circle. We turn here and there. It’s like a maze. I would get lost in here. Maybe, that’s the purpose of this maze-like hallway. If the prisoners were to somehow escape, they would have no idea which way was which—they’d get lost.
