14 First Day

Saint flared a black coloured denim jacket over her shoulder. It perfectly matched her monochromatic outfit of the day. She wore a black crew neck shirt, cargo pants, and Chelsea boots. Her black, wavy hair was tied in a high ponytail. "Got plans today?" Sandro entered the closet with only a towel covering him below the waist. Saint gulped at the immaculate sight. Memories of last night flashed before her eyes. "You're starring. Are you all right?" He was already wearing his trousers. "Huh?" Saint paused, trying to remember what had just happened. "You hired me as a bodyguard, remember?" Sandro stared deep into her eyes. "You did not finish the training." Thinking of the unfolding of events, he couldn't help but worry. What ifs played in his head, and they were all for the worst. Saint's mouth hung open. "Do you forget what I did back in the camp?" She was confused. Is he gatekeeping her from the outside world? "If you don't want me around, then it's fine. I'll be on the outskirts if you need me." Before she stepped out of the room, Sandro grabbed her arm and pulled her back in. "Stay beside me," he whispered in defeat. Her lips stretched in a smile. "That's what bodyguards do. I'll ready the car." Saint did not wait long. She decided to use a 1950s cherry red muscle car. She never saw Sandro use it, so she's taking this baby for a ride. "We will gain a lot of attention with this car." Sandro was wearing casual pants, a polo shirt, and tennis shoes. "Your Jeep catches attention too," she retorted before speeding out of the manor. She was hitting the limit, carelessly overtaking other cars. "We're not in a hurry." Sandro held his seatbelt tight. Saint smiled at him and took a sharp turn. "Saint, slow down!" The usual 20-minute drive became 12. Saint parked right in front of the city hall. "You should've seen your face." She laughed relentlessly. "You shouldn't have driven that fast. Are you trying to get us in an accident?" Worry was written all over his face. She was just in a life and death situation last night, and now she's putting herself in danger again. Was she desperately trying to die? Understanding his tensed emotion, Saint held his hand firmly. "Nothing will happen to me, and I will not let anything happen to you." You still haven't fulfilled my plan for you yet. "I'll drive slower next time." She kissed him on his cheek. Saint zoomed out of the car and ran fast to open the door on his. "You don't have to do this," he mumbled under his breath. "Bodyguards make these trivial gestures. I'm your employee, Mr Bardin." She walked behind Sandro, which caused her eyes to look at her. Their marriage was very private, though Sandro planned to announce it during the elections. Saint was not bothered by any of it. She barely cared about what others had to say. Once they entered his office, they found a gorgeous man standing beside the door, waiting for their arrival. "Good morning, Mr Bardin and Miss..." he stalled. Sandro never mentioned who his wife was, even though most people around his circle knew that he had been married. "This is my assistant, Train Volkzbin. Train, meet my wife—" "I'm his bodyguard. Please call me Saint." She stepped in and reached out her hand. Train took her hand and firmly shook it. They exchanged respectful smiles. "Boss, I'll stay in the lounge. Call me if you need anything," she excused herself after the short introduction. She was trying her best to be a seamless bodyguard. Sandro held her hand firmly and pulled her into the office. "You will guard me from here." Sure enough, she had her own desk in a corner. Its presence cramped the space. Sandro was not the CEO of some gigantic business. He was a mayor who lived on the budget provided by the government. If not for his affluent background, he would never have been able to live his luxurious life. "This is too much special treatment. I'm not accepting that desk intended for me. I'll sit on the couch." Without waiting for his response, she sat on the couch and fished her phone out of her pocket. She planned on wasting time using her phone. She focused so much on the game she was playing she did not notice hours had passed. She threw a glance at her husband and found him seriously reading papers. Do mayors always read papers? That was when she looked around and found stacks of papers all over the place. Are mayors hired to do a bunch of paperwork or to serve the people? She couldn't comprehend why people enter politics. "You need something?" Sandro asked when he noticed her observing him intently. He regretted not helping her ease in the office. It was just that tons of paperwork came in yesterday. He doesn't want to take work home—he's not a bachelor anymore. "Can I have a coin? I want to buy candy from the cafeteria." Right, she's craving something sweet. He smiled faintly and gave her a couple of bills. "Go eat something." She gave her sweetest smile. "Thank you." Saint took the opportunity to walk out of the room and scan the whole place. She familiarized herself with the people. Her feet led her into the cafeteria. She bought a couple of lollipops and plopped one in her mouth, letting the stick hang in between her lips. She continued her tour and was checking for exit points when she bumped against Train. "I'm sorry, Mrs Bardin." Train bowed slightly. "Call me Saint. People weren't aware of that...you know. Let's keep it that way." She squinted her eyes a bit and took a deep breath. "Sandro, is he always this busy?" she asked. Train thought for a moment and smiled shyly. "He doesn't really spend much time in his office. He was always out working with people. He loves working with farmers and orphanages. It's just that there is too much paperwork for this month. He plans to request a budget to support programs for the outskirts." Her ears pinged at the mention of the outskirts. "Sands wants to make a program for the outskirts?" "It has been his focus since last year. They are still his people, even though they refuse to support the government." The outskirts were heavily stricken by poverty. Due to this, people there turned to illegal activities to survive, while some wealthy people took advantage of it and monopolized businesses in the place. Saint was aware of the situation, she had bonded with people from that place since her mother's death.
