She eats another pretzel, thinking over my request. Finally, Everly takes a deep breath, as if bracing herself for the pain of what she’s about to say. “There was an accident when I was seventeen,” she whispers. My stomach drops and I have to fight the urge to pull her across the console and wrap her up in my arms. The anguish in her voice damn near breaks my heart. “I was out with my parents and my sister.
