Elowen POV I’VE NEVER BEEN SO miserable in my life. I’ve spent ten days trying to connect with Stryker, but he keeps shutting me down at every turn. I should have stopped trying after the horrible lunch incident where he growled at me to leave. Instead, my foolish heart was more determined than ever to get close to him. I brought him coffee only to have him say he doesn’t drink the stuff. There was a mug full of hot coffee on his desk as he looked me in the eye and lied. On Tuesday morning, Stryker and I rode an elevator up to our floor together. With no one else in the elevator, it was oddly intimate. I asked him how his morning was, which was admittedly not a great question. I had to use the situation to my advantage, though, so I pressed on. Stryker grunted and turned away from me,
