Goose
By the time I finished what my dad wanted done, I was on the verge of falling asleep. The Adderall had long worn off, and I wasn't willing to take another one. I also wasn't ready to go home and go to bed yet. I still wanted to talk to Lyssa and really hoped she saw my note and was waiting for me. I also really hoped I hadn't scared her off by looking into her sister and ex. That worry dissipated as I pulled my bike up alongside Emilia's car in her driveway.
Sitting on the porch, Emilia and Lyssa both watched me as I climbed off my bike. Lyssa got up and walked down the porch steps, meeting me at the bottom. At the same time, Emilia got up and disappeared into her part of the house.
"You two make up?"
Smiling, she nodded.
"Yes."
"Good."
Turning, she led the way around the house, letting us into her portion of the house. Walking inside, she went over to the couch and set down her full attention on me. I took that as her way of waiting to hear what I had to say. And not sure where to start, I started from the beginning. I repeated to her some of what I had already told her the night before, but she didn't seem to mind that I was telling her things she already knew. Stuff like not just her sister being in town, but also her ex, Ray. I didn't believe that her sister was pregnant, and if she was, she hadn't seen a doctor about it yet. Ray had been with more than just Brooklyn during the time he had been with Lyssa. Ray's parents had cut him off, and from what I could find out, their will. Although I still couldn't confirm this, as I couldn't find a new will, I could only note that the last one they had filed with their lawyer was no longer listed as the most current one. Overall, I thought there was something else going on, but I wasn't really sure what it was. However, whatever it was, Ray and Brooklyn were here because, I am sure, they think Lyssa has something to do with everything.
The whole time I talked, Lyssa was quiet, her full attention on me, listening. When I was done, she got up from her spot on the couch and walked over to the table, picking something up and walking back over, handing it to me.
"I think they might be right, if that is true. Only I don't know what I have to do with it. But this was delivered today. Emilia and I drove over to the restaurant to get a look at it. We also looked it up, and it's fancy. Like Ray's parents' kind of restaurant, fancy."
"I am going with you."
She nodded.
"I know."
Looking over the invitation, I couldn't help but wonder who it was from. I had seen several things in my research last night with Ray's parents' handwriting, or at least what I think was their handwriting, and none of it looked like the handwriting on this. I mean, it could be from his parents, but my gut said it wasn't. And if I was right, then who did that leave? Who could it be from? For a split second, I thought about taking another pill and staying up longer to figure it out. But Lyssa, lightly pulling the invitation out of my hand and setting it aside, distracted me enough that she was able to pull me up from where I was sitting. I didn't fight her as she walked me back to her room and helped me undress. Both of us laying down in her bed. My eyes closed on their own the moment my head was on the pillow.
When I opened my eyes again, Lyssa was not with me. Not in bed anyway. She was in the shower, from the sounds of it. Or at least she was for the moment. The sound of the water shutting off told me she was finishing up. Rolling over, I set up on the edge of the bed, letting myself wake up a little more before I got up. I was also taking my time, so she was able to finish in the bathroom before I entered. The bathroom wasn't huge, but it wasn't large enough for both of us to be in it at the same time.
When I heard the bathroom door open, I stood up, making my way that way. As she passed me, going into the bedroom, I nearly changed my mind and turned around and followed her. She was covered in only a towel, her hair still dripping water down her naked skin. She hadn't even done her makeup yet, leaving her natural beauty on full display. Honestly, it was my favorite look. She was stunning with her makeup, but without it, she was absolutely beautiful.
"Good, you're up. I was starting to worry you were going to sleep through the whole day."
Raising an eyebrow, I turned, looking at the clock she kept nearby. If it was right, it was after three in the afternoon. I slept through the night and most of the next day.
"Why didn't you wake me?"
"I tried, you even got up for a few minutes, but then you went right back to bed."
Well s**t. Turning, I went into the bathroom and started the shower again. I had to make sure I stayed awake this time. I wasn't going to have a lot of time to try and figure out who we were meeting at six. But I would do what I could before then.
