Anna clutched on the black bag hanging over her shoulders with her black heels in her hand as she walked barefooted with a deep frown on her face. She was heading back home with her previously tucked-in white shirt, now tattered and dirty. She walked for a while until she got to her apartment, not minding the awkward and curious stares she received. When Anna got to her apartment, she unlocked the door and walked in. Shutting the door behind her, she dropped her heels on the floor, walked to the couch, and her chubby body collapsed on it with a satisfied sigh. She felt proud of herself. Today, she had given her perverted boss a piece of her mind and a dose of his own medicine. When she remembered how she hit him good on the head with her heels before she left the office, a wide satisfied grin appeared on her face. Her boss had tried to touch her inappropriately for the twentieth time in his office when he called for a file. She had refused him from touching her countless times, but he just wouldn't keep his hands to himself. So today, she decided it was time to teach him that not every girl is a w***e. The phone in her bag rang and she reached for it. It was Julie, her roommate and only friend calling. She slid on the green icon and placed the phone close to her ears. "Hello." She answered. "Anna, are you okay?" Julie's voice boomed from the other side of the line. Her tone laced with worry and concern. "I'm okay." Anna replied simply, stood up from the couch, and walked to the kitchen. She opened the fridge and accessed it, the phone still placed on her ears. "You sounded urgent over the phone. What happened?" Julie was still worried. She didn't believe Anna when she said she was fine. Anna scanned the fridge for a soft drink. When she didn't see any, she settled on a bottle of cold water. "It's nothing serious, Julie. Just had a fight with my boss." Julie sighed. "A fight with your boss? Again?" She asked with her voice low. Although, she didn't sound surprised. Anna walked back to the couch and sat on it. She placed the bottle of water on the table and continued. "He wouldn't keep his hands to himself, so I had to teach him how to do that." She said. "What did you do?" Julie's voice sounded like she already knew what Anna had done. Anna had always been a woman who embodies confidence and assertiveness. She has always been unafraid to speak her mind and stand up for herself. She has never been intimidated. "Who said I did anything?" Anna almost laughed. "I know you, Anna." Julie laughed. "What did you do?" "I didn't do anything. I just gave him a piece of my mind. That man is just so shameless." Anna said. "What did he do?" Julie asked. "Did he touch you again?" Anna sighed and reached for her water on the table. "He tried to touch me again. But you know me, I gave him what he deserved." Julie laughed. "Trust me to teach him a good lesson. I hit him so hard on the head. I'm sure his brain has repositioned." "You hit him?" Julie was surprised. "I had to hit him." Anna admitted. "...very hard." They both burst into laughter. "You shouldn't have gone that far, Anna? What if he files a complaint to have you arrested?" Julie asked. "He wouldn't. I know him." "Ah, my sister, you really need deliverance. Where are you now?" "At home." Anna replied simply. "At home? Why?" "I was fired." Julie laughed so hard that she started coughing. "Y..you..were fired?" She asked. Anna hissed. "Please, what's that? Ehy are you laughing? Do you want to mock me?" Julie laughed for a while before she stopped. "My dear, it's not my intention. So you were fired?" "Yes." "Ah, I knew it. I just knew that one day your boss would fire you." "I don't understand you, Julie. Are you happy about this?" "Don't get me wrong, o. I'm not happy you were fired, but Anna, you are stubborn o. Very stubborn." Anna nodded even if Julie wasn't there to see her. "I agree. It's better to be tagged as a troublesome person than to allow that filthy thing to touch me. I felt really disgusted." "But that your boss is actually shameless. At his age, he should be thinking of how to gather money pending his retirement." "Exactly why I taught him a lesson." Julie laughed again. "..what will you do? You know you can't just sit at home." Anna sighed. "I'll just look for another job. It's not like I have any other option. I have to raise money for my father's surgery." "So you knew?" Julie chuckled. "You knew you didn't have any other option, and you have to raise money, but still went ahead to fight your boss." "Julie, please. I see you want to mock me." Julie chuckled. "Not really. Anyway, there is a vacancy at the company where I work. You can come submit a CV." Anna sat up. "Really? What position?" "A cleaner." Julie told her. "Cleaner ke?" "Yes o. The CEO fired all the cleaners this morning. You need to be here this morning. It was chaos. The victims were in tears as they left." "Ahan, why will he do that? Fire all the cleaners?" "According to the HOD this morning, he saw a dirty spot at the company's entrance." "Just that?" Anna asked, surprised. "Just that o." "This is serious." "We are recruiting new cleaners. I felt I should let you know if you're up for the position." "Sure. It's not like I have a job anymore." "Okay." Julie answered. "I'll add your name for an interview." "Thank you, Julie." "No, don't thank me yet o. Make something nice for me to eat instead." "You and food. Okay, I've heard you. I'll make something special." "Better. Have you heard from Dr Sam?" Anna let out a deep breath. "I haven't but I'll be leaving for the hospital soon. It's possible I'll spend the night there." "Okay, that'd be fine. Just don't forget to leave enough food for me before leaving." They both laughed at what she said.
