Chapter 2

I kept turning in my bed trying to sleep. I couldn't get Keegan out of my mind and it eventually drifted me into sleep. I woke up three hours before my alarm rang. I stared up at the ceiling, not wanting to move, as today was one of those days I could feel something was going to happen. Maybe not something bad, just something that would drain my energy to the lowest. I put on a white t-shirt and a black pair of jeans with white high ankle vans. I grabbed my backpack and stuffed my books in it before walking downstairs, grabbing an apple from the counter before heading out for school. Even though there were almost four hours left before school started, I decided to get some work done at the library. The library never closes for the students as it's marked as a 'safe' place. It's just not allowed to be there at nighttime, mostly to prevent parties. It had just stopped raining and the sun was about to rise behind the pine trees that were covering most of our pack's territory. Birds started to come out to whistle their morning songs and everything felt so peaceful. I inhaled the lovely smell of wet asphalt combined with the trees and just enjoyed the moment. I couldn't get enough of the wonderful scene the morning had offered me. The sun shining through the pines to reflect on the asphalt, giving away every detail of texture the years had made and the sky being a warm orange sharing space with small clouds all over. When I arrived, I decided that studying outside on the school benches was more soothing, as I would rather look at our beautiful nature than four walls inside. Reaching for my history book inside my backpack, I heard something in the forest around the school building, like a branch being stepped on. I froze at the movement, trying to hear better where the movement came from, slowly sitting up and scanning the area carefully for anything out of the ordinary. I caught something moving in the right corner of my eye. A girl stepping from the shadows that I didn't know, but I recognized her as one of Bellatrix's friends. Soon after, a girl to my left caught my attention and, not long after, Bellatrix appeared in front of me, having a ugly smirk going wide across her face. I could sense there was still something thick between us from yesterday, as her eyes were still full of hatred and glowing emerald green from her wolf peeking forward in her eyes. “I don’t think we were quite done with our conversation yesterday, Daphne”, spitting at my name. The other girls were surrounding me thinking I would try to escape out of fear. “I think you must have hit your head, as we were pretty much done talking since you tried to attack me, remember that?”, raising an eyebrow and standing up very relaxed. “You hid behind a guy in white armor coming to your rescue!” she snarled at me. “I didn’t hide, I was just lucky someone wanted to help me in an unfair fight, as you know pretty well, I haven’t turned 17 yet” I stated while getting a little annoyed at how she could think I needed to hide from her. I had been training in secret to not show others what I’m capable of, and also to lure challengers forward, making them think it would be easy to steal my title from me. “I can make it easier for you. Just you and me. No wolf. no help” she smirked and the glow from her eyes disappeared as a sign that her wolf backed off. “To death” I said nonchalantly as I packed up my stuff so they wouldn’t fly away in the wind. I looked at Bellatrix and I saw that she hesitated for a moment, before smirking and telling her girls that they were witnesses to it all. I motioned the girls to come to me. Even though I was not yet the alpha, I had alpha blood running in me, making it possible to give others simple orders. “As a witness to this fight, you will tell the truth to the current alpha and Luna about what happened” I told them, forcing my alpha aura over them. They bowed their heads, showing their necks to me in submitment. They then backed away to sit on the bench I was sitting on not long ago, to cheer on Bellatrix, which honestly did not bother me. They should be doing that since they are her friends. We got prepared to fight as we walked around in a circle, observing each other's every step. Bellatrix takes the first move to try and swing her whole arm at me, only for me to duck it like limbo, feeling everything going in slow motion. As I stood straight again, she had her back against me, making it the perfect opportunity for my move. I hit her in the back, right between her shoulder blades with my elbow. She stumbles forward only to look back at me with more anger, still not giving her wolf control. She charged again only to slide tackle me to the ground, hitting the ground with my back first. I groaned at the pain when I then saw the sole of her shoe coming for me, trying to step on my head repeatedly as I rolled away from her. I rolled to my side to then stood on my feet again before having her fist coming right at me. Ducking again, I then hit her in the back of the head, causing her to fall face first in a blackout. I recovered my breath quickly, leaning with my arms on my knees, before walking up to her to check if she was out or not. “Please don’t kill her!” one of the girls said with real worry in her voice. She had jumped up from the bench in real panic when Bellatrix got knocked out. “Calm down, I won’t kill her” I simply said as I rolled her to her back, checking on her more carefully. “Take her home and give her some painkillers, she will wake up in a few hours”, I told the girls while walking back to the bench to grab my stuff. “Yes alpha” both of them said. “Don’t call me that please, I have not deserved it yet” I said before walking towards the school entrance, not wanting to cause anymore trouble. They nodded before carrying Bellatrix away, assuming they would go back home. Before entering the school, a voice spoke up. “Very impressive for a girlfight”, a voice being too familiar now to not know who it belonged to. I turned around to see Keegan standing on the lower part of the stairs, leaning on the stone stair railing looking up at me with no emotion showing. “You saw that?”, feeling a little embarrassed that I, the daughter of the alpha, had started a fight. “I saw everything” he simply said before heading up the stairs to where I was standing, not breaking eye contact. I felt my cheek warm up at the awkward situation, trying to turn around to head inside the building, only for an arm reaching over my shoulder to close the door right in front of me. I felt how close he was, feeling his warmth against my back but still not touching me. “What do you want?” I asked, still facing the door. I expected the same disgusting behavior Darson always had with me, only to be proven wrong. “What is up between you and Darson” he said with an annoying tone while taking his arm back from the door, causing me to turn around to meet his gaze, who was now trying to read me. I felt how my face heated up, feeling a little hesitant over his attention. “He wants me to mate with him when I get my wolf” I simply said, looking down at the ground. A deep but subtle growl was coming from him making me look back at him a little scared, also taking a step back, now standing against the door with my back. His eyes were glowing red straight at me and his breathing was getting more noticeable at his chest for every second that went on by. He backed away from me to turn around and head down the stairs, walking and disappearing away into the woods, leaving me there confused and shocked about his actions. Why was he getting so mad about Darson and why did he care?
