The video started with Clarice collapsing unconscious on the ground, followed by Dan dragging her into the car, and ended with her escaping.
In the footage, her back was to the camera, but Dan's face was clearly visible.
After watching the video again, Clarice couldn't suppress her anger.
In such a dire situation, Dan not only failed to help her but even tried to take advantage of it.
It wasn't just a breach of a doctor's ethics; it showed a complete lack of basic human decency!
Without hesitation, Clarice drafted an email, attaching the video and detailing the events of that day before sending it to the director, George Jones.
Shortly after, the office door swung open forcefully, and in walked Dan along with an unfamiliar woman.
The woman, dressed in a Chanel coat, with wavy, long curls and glittering manicured nails, threw her designer handbag aside and sat down haughtily across from Clarice.
"You're Clarice, right? Why are you slandering Dan?" she demanded, holding up her phone, which played the video Clarice had just sent to George.
"My father was furious after seeing this, demanding I break off my engagement with Dan. Why are you trying to ruin us?"
It was none other than George's daughter, Betty Jones.
Clarice looked at Dan, who was hiding behind Betty, then back at Betty herself.
"Ms. Jones, I don't understand how you consider this slander. I fainted, and Dan not only failed to provide medical assistance but also delayed my treatment. The video clearly shows that I'm the victim here."
"Seeing is not always believing. The southwest corner's surveillance was broken, but you conveniently have a recording. Who's to say you didn't set this up in advance to frame Dan? Besides, the authenticity of this video still needs verification," Betty shouted loudly, drawing the attention of patients and colleagues passing by the office.
Clarice was at a loss for words.
'Is this shameless man really worth Betty twisting the facts to defend him?'
"Ms. Jones, Dan recently spread rumors in the hospital, claiming he was attacked by my lover after catching us in the act. At least this video proves he lied."
A flicker of doubt crossed Betty's face, but Dan quickly jumped in to redirect the conversation.
"Your husband ended up in jail because of your infidelity! You get entangled with male patients, and their wives have complained to the hospital! With you tarnishing the hospital's reputation, why has Mr. Jones always protected you by suppressing these complaints?" he shouted.
As expected, Betty's focus shifted back to her father. "Clarice, don't even think about using my father! I despise women like you who rely on looks to get ahead! I'm firing you today!"
The crowd outside the door began to crane their necks, eagerly gossiping.
"Yeah, I've heard that Dr. Ford's conduct is questionable."
"She's young, yet her husband ended up in prison because of her. There's definitely something wrong with her. I've seen her husband. He seemed like a good guy..."
Clarice couldn't help but laugh at Betty's stupidity.
This woman had terrible taste in men and a misguided sense of loyalty, to the point of turning a blind eye to the evidence and attacking others with baseless accusations!
Dan's claims twisted the truth, portraying Clarice as the problem when she was clearly the victim.
Rich people came in all types; at least Ivan was generous, but Betty? She was just pathetic.
Determined to end this quickly, Clarice pulled out a recording device from her drawer and hit the play button.
"If you apologize and agree to be my mistress... Even the director's daughter listens to me. In a few years, this hospital will be mine..."
Clarice played the recording at top volume, allowing Dan's voice to echo loudly through the office.
The crowd was stunned. Betty looked shocked, Dan's face turned pale, and the onlookers wore a mix of expressions.
"Watch out!" someone suddenly shouted.
Clarice turned abruptly and saw Dan rushing over to attack her, his face twisted by rage.
Everything happened so fast that Clarice could only dodge him instinctively.
Caught off guard, Dan tripped over Clarice's leg and crashed face-first to the floor, reopening the wounds on his recently unbandaged face.
"Don't move! I just recorded the whole thing! I've already called the police!" Susan rushed forward, holding up her phone to document everything, wary of Dan's potential retaliation.
Clarice pulled Susan back, ready to step forward and continue the confrontation when a slender figure suddenly lunged forward, flailing her arms and slapping Dan's face repeatedly.
"You bastard! I treated you so well, but you dared to covet my family's hospital! I'm so pretty, yet you still hit on other women! I'll kill you, you scum!"
Betty's small frame erupted with unexpected strength, leaving scratch marks on Dan's face from the diamonds on her nails.
Already bruised and swollen, Dan now looked even worse.
Clarice and Susan were both stunned by this sudden fight. As they listened to Dan's wails, they couldn't help but step back.
"Stop! Everyone, step aside! The police are here!"
The crowd blocked the narrow corridor, but after a few minutes, two officers finally managed to squeeze through. "Who called the police?"
"Stop fighting!" one officer shouted upon seeing the one-sided brawl and tried to intervene to stop Betty.
Susan stepped forward, blocking the officer's way. "Officer, I'm the one who called! I've got video proof. This man is the lowest of the low!"
The scene of a crazed woman pummeling a defenseless man while the onlookers eagerly watched made the officer sigh. He realized Susan's ploy but stood his ground, leaving Dan to suffer.
Suddenly, the crowd parted, and the director, George, rushed to Betty, pulling her off Dan. "Stop embarrassing yourself!"
"Dad! I can't take this! How could he do this to me?" Betty cried as she collapsed onto her father's shoulder.
With the director's arrival, the crowd's gossip only grew louder.
"Ah, so it was Dan's fault, after all."
"Yeah, he was the one in the wrong. He even spread rumors about Dr. Ford."
"You were the one believing his lies just days ago, and now you're switching sides?"
People only believed what they wanted—gossip that was curious and scandalous, satisfying their desire to pry into others' lives.
No one truly cared about the truth or a woman's reputation.
Clarice listened to the surrounding chatter with indifference.
She had faced such changing tides countless times before. It reminded her of a man who once stood in front of her, shielding her from malicious rumors.
'What's wrong with me? Why have I been thinking about that man so frequently lately?' she wondered.
