CHAPTER 008
STORM’S POV:
Seconds passed and the silence in the room stretched on, leaving me no choice but to divert the situation. And how was I going to do that? By ignoring her of course.
“Excuse you, where do you think you're going? I asked you a question?”
I glared at Fiona, already feeling irritated by her presence. “And I'm choosing to ignore you, can you not understand that or are you just slow?”
An exaggerated gasp left her mouth as her face turned beet red in embarrassment.
“How dare you?”
“No, how dare you? Poking your nose in my business as always.” I crossed my arms over my chest and gave her a disapproving look. “Don't you have better things to do than follow people around?”
She shook her head as a confused look took over her face. “But I wasn't even following you–”
I rolled my eyes as I mimed a mouth-talking with my fingers. “Excuses is all I hear Fiona and I'd rather not have this conversation with you. Have a nice evening.” I side-stepped out of her way and successfully slipped out of the room, my heart racing in anxiety. If she had caught me I would have had no choice but to either kill her or make her disappear.
She was already getting on my nerves as it was. Maybe her disappearance wouldn't be such a bad thing.
“Hey, what took you so long? We have orders piled up” I brushed my hands against my dress as I got to work making the drinks.
Ravena seemed to notice my change in mood and bent to my eye level to catch my gaze. “You okay, you seem annoyed by something.”
“Sorry about that, Fiona just decided to ruin my mood again.”
“What did she do?” Ravena asked with venom in her voice. I smiled and patted her shoulder to ease her mind. I knew how much she didn't like the girl and I didn't want what happened between us to escalate.
“It was nothing Rave, I promise. She was just being annoying as usual.”
Ravena sighed and patted my hand back, “Okay, but just in case she tries to mess with you again, promise to tell me immediately.” I nodded quickly with amusement and appreciation in my eyes. “Yes, Mother I promise.” Ravena who was frowning suddenly joined me to smile making me giggle.
“Come on, let's finish this.”
“Oh before I forget,” she suddenly moved to the other side of the bar and presented a piece of paper to me, scribbled on it with immaculate cursive writing were the words ‘Scotch on the rocks, two glasses’
“We have a special order” Special? Since when?
“Uhmmm for who?”
“The Alpha and Beta of the Bloodhound pack.” my eyes widened comically as I gaped at Ravena, her words registering in my ears.
“The same Alpha you told me about?” I whispered under my breath so the sharp ears around us wouldn't catch on. “Yeah, him. The Beta asked specifically for you to make and bring the order.”
I was shocked but didn't let it show on my face. “Why me though?” For some reason, I found it fishy that he asked for me specifically. Was there something I was missing?
“I have no idea, he just came here personally and asked for the maid with blonde hair to serve him and his Alpha, they're over there.” She gestured with her head to our left and I followed her eyes. I found them standing close to the trees, their faces serious as they spoke.
“You should hurry and take it to them. I don't like having their attention on us.” Ravena murmured for only my ears. I understood what she meant. Their kind made ours uncomfortable. It wasn't new. So I could see why she was jittery.
“Alright then. Let me just finish making these drinks and I'll get right to it.”
“Thanks.” I nodded and got to work, by the time I was done I noticed the Alpha was the only one still standing by the bonfire and he looked lost in thought as he stared at the roaring flames.
From this angle, his features looked dark and dangerous, and that dastardly scar running down his cheek wasn't helping at all. I couldn’t help but wonder how he acquired it.
Was it during a fight? Or did he have an accident?
What could cause such a scar without fully healing?
Was it a silver blade or a blade coated in wolfsbane?
For some reason, I didn’t know why I was so curious about it and everything that surrounded him but one thing was for certain. He was going to be dead by the end of the festival anyway so what was the point of caring for his rudgley looks?
I was so distracted that I didn't notice the bottle of scotch I was holding was at a weird angle, causing the liquid to spill everywhere.
“s**t, Danny be careful,” Ravena yelled as she helped me clean up the mess I made.
I facepalmed, my clumsiness alarming and irritating me. I wasn't normally like this. Why was this suddenly happening to me? “I'm so sorry, I got a little distracted,” I confessed.
“Are you really okay Danny?” Ravena asked as she watched me with concerned eyes.
“Yeah yeah, I'm fine,” I responded with a grimace, my hands trembling as I shoved them in my pockets. My fingers wrapped around the bottle of wolfsbane, and suddenly I became aware of what I was about to do….. what I needed to do and like a flip was switched my heart slowed to a steady beat and my mind settled.
“Are you sure?” Ravena inquired again and I gave her my best Oscar award-winning smile.
“I promise I'm okay, Rave. Let me just get this to them. I'll be right back.”
“Okay, then,” Ravena replied with an uncertain look on her face. Not fully convinced. I turned around and continued preparing the drinks, slipping the wolfsbane out of my pocket and swiftly dumping the clear content inside the glass.
With a sigh, I took the tray, his drink the only one on it, and headed his way, my steps steady and confident although I kept my head bowed to the ground.
I didn't want to think about anything at that moment or I'd definitely get anxious and chicken out. This type of thing wasn't new to me but I wasn't prepared to have a full-on fight with werewolves. I'd be dead in seconds.
For some reason the thought made me look back at Ravena. I could see her smiling at me from her spot behind the bar making me smile back. My smile dropped the moment I turned back around. Ravena was such a good person and I wasn't sure why but I felt guilty that I was dragging her into this. Sure she wouldn't be able to recognize me in the outside world but I would. For some reason, the thought irked me. She didn't deserve to be here, serving these creatures like some kind of slave.
I stopped my pondering as I arrived in front of the Alpha, keeping my eyes on the ground and my hair covering my features.
“My lord,” I presented the glass to him and felt the air around me blocked by his large frame as he approached. He reached towards the tray, his large fingers wrapping around the glass and taking the drink.
I swallowed as his mouth touched the rim of the glass, the liquid sloshing around in the cup ready to slip past his lips.
Yes, yes, yes come on……I chanted in my mind as I watched him.
Suddenly, he paused his nose twitching with an indescribable emotion on his face making me freeze. My heart rate spiked up. I tried as much as possible to hide my emotions. Years of training are coming in handy. Just as my heart settled finally, his deep voice spoke up, sending my mind back into chaos.
“What's inside this?”
