CHAPTER 003
STORM’S POV:
So my guess wasn't wrong; Beta Matteo was in fact, the Beta of the bloodhound pack, and their Alpha, whose name I still haven't figured out, was here. Guess I would have to stick to calling him Terror in my head until I found out his name.
Why was one werewolf so mysterious and secretive? I couldn't get a single info on him apart from the fact that he would be attending this ceremony. No pictures on the Internet. Not even a paparazzi-taken photo. Even his real name was a mystery which was why a nickname was given.
It sounded tacky to me though.
Terror of the night? Really? Was that the best they could come up with?
I wonder what he felt about the name. Well, he'll be dead before I get to ask, so it'll be of no use.
“Danika!” I jolted out of my daydreaming and scrubbed the dishes faster. I was not ready for the scolding that was about to come.
“Why are you daydreaming when you're supposed to be scrubbing? We have more guests coming in today and don't forget the hunting games begin today. Our employers need to eat before they leave for their activities by 7.”
It was 5 am. I was definitely not ready for this conversation.
I turned to face the head maid fully and bowed a little in respect. I was a f*****g assassin. Why did I have to go through this s**t again? Oh yes, because my master wanted someone dead.
“Sorry Madam Christa, I'll wash faster.” There was no way I would finish this before 7 am.
She gave me a bored look and scoffed. “I'll call Fiona and the others to help you. Make sure you're done before 7 or else…” She pointed a warning finger at me and I almost bit it off with my teeth.
Be calm, Storm…….
When she turned to leave I mouthed ‘ugly witch’ behind her head and swiveled back to my work. Fiona and the others came to join me, and thank the gods, no one spoke a word to me.
We worked in silence for a while till it was time to make breakfast. It was a good thing we were done before then.
Working in groups, we began to pack up snacks and essentials for the werewolves who were going out to hunt.
This was a tradition that had been going on for years. The male wolves would go out and hunt the biggest game they could find and the women would gush over their strength and prowess. I think I puked a little in my mouth.
Werewolf culture was so different from human culture. I know this because I have read books and watched movies to last me a lifetime. Whenever the Master wasn't around of course.
While the female wolves stayed home and let their men do everything for them, female humans fought for femininity and showed the world that whatever a man could do, a woman could do a better job.
I was a living testimony of that statement, but in that case, whatever a werewolf could do in their human form, I could match it. It was hard yesterday because they were faster, stronger, and scarier with the fangs and everything, but they didn't scare me. I knew their weaknesses, every single one. And I knew how to kill them.
If Brandon could hear me right now he would laugh his ass off. It's just been 3 days and I was already missing home. Brandon was my only family, well, apart from my Master, who took me in. I don't know who my parents are, nor do I care. If they wanted to find me they would have all these years. It was a great reprieve that they didn't bother with me, though; I became the woman I am today without them. I don't need them. I don't need anyone in this cruel world. Only myself.
“Never trust anyone, Storm; I'm the only one you should trust.” Master's voice rang in my head, making a small smile break out on my face.
He was the father I never had, and although he could be harsh sometimes I knew he only did it because he cared about me. He took me in when no one wanted me. I would be eternally grateful to him for that selfless act.
“All right, everyone listen up.” The Headmaid Christa, called our attention to her. The human workers stopped moving and faced her direction as we listened.
“Normally, the Werewolves who work in the castle deliver and serve the food. But unfortunately, today, that won't be the case. They have been summoned to help with the hunting games so it's up to us to deliver the food.” This was shocking. The human workers have had little to no contact with the higher ranks. This was it, this was my opportunity to find him. Fate was slowly working in my favor to get this work done. Thank the gods.
“Remember the rules,” oh, here we go again. I zoned out as she listed out every single thing I had already memorized from home.
Do not look into their eyes, don't speak unless addressed, heads should stay bowed in a submissive position, do not provoke the Werewolves, and the last one which I hated the most ‘do not resist them’
I wasn't a slave to anyone, not even a damn smelly werewolf. If any of them touched me, even if it wasn't at that moment I would hunt them down until I had their blood spilling onto the ground.
It's a good thing red was my favorite colour.
When the Headmaid finished speaking, we began to pack the packages we made so we could deliver them.
Of course, I was stuck with Fiona and her lackeys. Great job, Christa, the ugly witch; you've just made my day ten times worse once again.
“Keep your head down Danika. I don't want any trouble or attention from these creatures.” Fiona’s comment made me want to wring her neck. But I held myself back.
“What is your problem with me, Fiona? I haven't done anything to get myself in any kind of trouble. What makes you think I would get you In trouble.”
Fiona glared venomously at me and condescendingly folded her arms. “I'm just reminding you. Yesterday, you almost got in trouble with Beta Matteo. Make yourself invisible. Your horrible-looking hair is enough to make them notice us.” She wasn't wrong about the horrible-looking wig. But I honestly didn't care what she thought. I was done listening to her constant nagging. Without a word, I moved past the three girls and walked forward to our first delivery.
We finished the ones on the ground floor and moved the ones on the top floor. When we arrived, I noticed the hairs on my arms rise and knew that only happened when there was danger around. Yes, I didn't have a werewolf’s special ability but I've learned to harness mine into something better. Which meant I was physically in tune with everything around me. Better than any human being could.
Fiona moved to the last door and knocked; we waited a few seconds before the door pulled open, revealing a pair of jade eyes that I recognized.
I controlled my breathing and heartbeat to a steady tempo. I couldn't react and act all excited knowing my target was truly closer than I could ever imagine. Matteo would sense it and I would have to explain. I was not ready for that type of attention again.
“We were assigned to bring your package, Sir.” My eyes slightly widened at how Fiona’s voice had drastically changed and no, not for the better. It was high-pitched and grating and absolutely horrifying. Was this how she spoke when she was in front of them? Oh hell no. That was torture.
“Of course,” Matteo's deep monotone voice out, but he wasn't even looking at her; his eyes were somewhere else entirely. They were on me.
Crap!
