Rose Discovers a Secret

2125 Words
I slowly made my way towards my parents and the three strangers in a daze, but was intercepted by Lyle.  "I have an announcement to make,"  He spoke loudly so the room fell quit.  "I have fallen for Rose, and she has consented to my courtship." he continued.  My parents gasped, and the men looked at him and I warily.  "Rose and I hope to be married soon, and I wanted to present her with this gift on her birthday." With that statement Lyle grabbed my waist and kissed me.  With the arrival of our strange new guests I had completely forgot that I had a suitor in the room, and shut my eyes as he deepened the kiss.  All of a sudden an animalistic growl tore through the room and Lyle was roughly pulled away from our embrace.  "You will not touch her again boy," the gorgeous stranger growled.  He sounded so animalistic.  "What gives, sir?  Let me go." Lyle wheezed out as the stranger was holding him a foot off the ground by his neck.  "Please stop. You're going to kill him." I begged this arrogant stranger placing my hands on the arm holding Lyle.  The strangers eyes flickered to me, and I saw his hard gaze soften as he stared at me.  He took a slow breath and dropped Lyle, who was curled in a ball on the floor holding his neck and gasping for air.  "Rose you do not have permission to be courted by Lyle." My father warily stated.  "Father, Why?  Is there something wrong with his suit?  He seems a gentleman to me."  I questioned him, while trying to help Lyle to his feet.  "You were promised to me by you father 3 years ago.  I have come to collect my bride and this party was a small gift to show you a little sample of what is to be yours as my wife." the stranger stated with a hint of arrogance.  "Excuse me?  Father he can not be serious.  Please tell me this is some elaborate joke?  You always stated that when we came of age, we could court a man of our choosing.  Please tell me you did not chose for me."  I cry and beg.  This can not be happening.  I'm suppose to be able to chose.  Sure a lot of marriages in our village and even the whole Kingdom are arranged by a person's parents, but my father always wanted his 3 daughters to be happy in marriage and said he would let us choose for ourselves as his and mother's parents had done for them.  "Patrick." The arrogant (as I have come to view him) stranger calls my father's attention, "I am wondering why you have not told your daughter of our betrothal."  "Well your highness, I, well I, uh, you see."  My father started to stammer and stutter, "You told us to keep her safe and pure until we deemed her old enough to marry, and we thought that by letting her believe she would have the same choice as her sisters that she would be less likely to rebel and run off with any young man."  "Wait.  So you lied to me?" I cry.  Just then a keyword hit me, "YOUR HIGHNESS?"  At that moment one of the stranger's companions turns to me and speaks, "Yes, your Highness.  This is the crowned Prince Victor Van Bleu, of the Red Blood Moon Kingdom."  We have a weird name for a Kingdom I know, but what can I say?  The territory of new Earth (old earth had died years ago and a colony was set up on a new planet) was split into 4 territories with moon related names.  I glance at the companion as he speaks to me and notice that he has raven black hair as long as the Prince and also tied back only with a red strap and striking honeyed brown eyes, he has very full lips and would make most girls go weak in the knees.  I glance at the other companion and notice him staring at Lily, he looks exactly like the companion so I'm assuming the are twins.  Lily also seems to be staring at the companion with a hazy look in her eyes.  I return my thoughts to the situation I'm in, "Father the Prince is a man of many dalliances and unsavory character.  How could you agree to such a marriage?"  "Rose my darling," my mother interjects, "Whos is he to refuse the request of a Prince?  We are but a simple farming family in the smallest village of the Kingdom.  We are struggling everyday to provide for you and your sisters.  He is willing to accept you with no dowry and has even offered us one in exchange for you.  He can provide a life for you, that we can not.  Please do not hate us for what we have done to ensure you a life that you deserve."  My mother pleads.  "Father, Mother, I know you mean well, " I plead, "But seriously how can you expect me to be happy?  Prince Victor is known to consort with many women in a single week, and you expect me to be a little wife and sit there quietly as it happens."  "I doubt you would sit around quietly at all." Prince Victor addresses me with that oh so arrogant smirk on his face, "Everything has been signed and sealed.  You belong to me as of today, To back out now means the death of your father and you will still come with me.  I do NOT take no for an answer."  He takes a breath, and leans over to whisper in my ear making me shiver, "Besides I admire your fire and spirit.  You will make bedding quite enjoyable."  "B-b-be-bedding?" I stutter.  Prince Victor's eyes flash confusion at the confused look upon my face, "Patrick, just how pure is your daughter, that she seems confused at what happens between a man and woman?"  The Prince asks my father.  "Well your Highness...besides kissing which I thought she knew nothing about until moments ago.." My father starts glancing at Lyle as I blush remembering that kiss, "She knows nothing."  "Nothing?  You mean to tell me, that I have a wife that knows nothing about the marital bed?  How am I to consummate the agreement if I have a wife that does not know what to expect?"  The Prince glares hard at my father.  "Please, you Highness.  We were just trying to keep her pure like you demanded in the square 3 years ago.  Please, we were just doing as you asked."  "I wanted her pure, yes not ignorant to the act."  I've finally had enough.  "Please, I have a few questions.  First, how did you even know about me as our village is the smallest and farthest away from the palace. Secondly why would you want to marry me?  I'm but a simple farm girl and you could have any noble in your Kingdom."  The Prince looks at me as he replies, "To answer your first inquiry I met you 3 years ago in the square.  You may not remember, but you were at the faire with your family and got separated from them in a crowd."  I vaguely remember that faire as it was the day my father became over protective of us girls. "You were zigzagging through the crowd calling for you father when you were surrounded by 4 men.  They looked to be harassing you, and you were crying.  My friends and I we recued you from the men and brought you back to your father."  I now remember the incident more clearly, I was scared because I got separated from my family and then some men surrounded me and started grabbing my arms and pulling me into an alley.  Saying things like we know what to do with pretty little lambs that get separated from the herd.  All of a sudden 3 men attacked the would be kidnappers and I fainted from fright.  When I came to I was in my father's arms and he carried me home saying that was enough excitement for the day.  He never took us to the yearly faire again.  "As for the answer to the second part, you were the prettiest little blossom I had ever laid eyes upon and that moment I knew I had to have you, so that night I started negotiations with your father."  The Prince finishes his story.  I can't help it and state quite sassily, "I will NEVER love you.  I have already chosen Lyle to love, and want to be with him.  He loves me back, and you never got to know me.  If you liked me, you should have come to me, not just Father."  At this the Prince smirks again, "My little fiery flower, you really think that boy loves you?"  He flicks a quick glance at Lyle who is standing there glaring at the 3 men.  "If he loved you he would not have visited your cute little friends over there after his nighttime encounters with you." The Prince states while indicating my friends Holly and Molly who are looking at the floor guiltily as they were the only ones to know that I liked Lyle.  He continues, "As for love, don't worry I don't expect that.  You are my WIFE though, and I do expect you to act accordingly.  A little fire and spirit is desirable, don't take it as far as disrespecting me. You are to warm my bed when I require it of you, and you will take lessons on etiquette and how to present yourself with the dignity required of being my Princess and future Queen.  As that is what you are from this moment.  Now it is getting late, my friends and I will be going to the hotel, I will collect you in the morning to begin our journey back to the palace.  I expect you would like this time to say goodbye to your family.  Don't worry about packing as we will fit you with a wardrobe and jewelry befitting my Princess as soon as we reach the palace."  "Please Prince, may I keep what I am wearing tonight and the jewelry box my brother in law Wilbert made for me?"  I ask showing him the box.  He looks at it then at Wilbert, "You carved this sir?" he asks.  Wilbert replies, "I did sir.  It was a gift for our Rose."  The Prince nods slightly, "It is very nice work.  Wilbert, was it?  I need to discuss it with my father, but we might have a place in the village near the palace for a carpenter if you're interested."  Wilbert and Jazz's  eyes widen at the prospect as they know that people in the Palace village pay well as it is were nobles frequent.  The Prince and his companions turn to leave, except the one staring at Lily who seems oblivious to anything going on around him.  The Prince turns towards him, "Brent.  It time to depart."  "Please, Vic.  I believe her to be.."  "I know Brent, now is not the time, we will discuss it later." The Prince interrupts him.  A growl escapes from the stranger Brent's throat that again sounds more like an animal than a human.  "She is mine, and I won't leave her."  He yells.  "Brother watch you tone." His twin warns.  "I'm sorry my Prince, I'm sorry Kent.  I just can't leave her, not when I've been searching for so long."  At that the Prince softens a little, "Farmer Patrick, I would like to request that your family joins us on our trip to my home.  You can see Rose settled. You can see my Palace for yourself, and I would like to discuss a future for your youngest with you."  "Your Highness while honored I can't up and leave my farm.  I have animals and crops to attend."  My Father states, but Wilbert interjects, "Father, go and see your daughters secure.  I can attend the farm.  My brother is coming for visit tomorrow and can also help during his month stay.  Please go and enjoy a visit to the Palace."    "It is settled than.  Your family will accompany me to the Palace." The Prince states clapping once, "As for you my Flower, I have decide you will accompany me to my hotel tonight.  I have decide that with your family attending the trip with us, there is no need for goodbyes and I would like to begin some lessons with you tonight.  I gulp and shiver a little at the look he gives me, and the way he purrs the word lesson.
