ELENA'S POV Lorenzo. He was so handsome in person.. Handsome was an understatement of how he was . He was gorgeous. He had this sexy voice that sent chills all over my body whenever he spoke. Truth to be told. He was scary when angry. Very. And I was red haired. Another factor that wasn't welcomed. Sonia, whom I perceived immediately as his dead wife, was also red haired. Lorenzo truly was the most handsome man I’d ever seen. My heart skipped a bit immediately he shot daggers at me while he argued with his aunt on allowing me to stay. He had gorgeous brown eyes and really black hair. He had very attractive lashes to add, his nose was small like a dot and he was so cute then his lips. I just smiled more thinking of him. I was really scared of him and hearing just these few words from him, his aura was really intimidating. Everything about him just gave this sense of dominance. From his height, to his face to the way he spoke. Everything was just perfect. Theresa led me to my room with two other maids behind her. They weren't welcoming at all. She looked at me in this type of way that made me itchy. The type of look my aunt always gave me. My aunty. I wondered what she told everyone about me back home. She would have to cook up some believable lies as she always did. Theresa opened a large door and we entered. “This is your room” “Thank you ma” She sneered and left with the other two maids I looked around. My room was huge. The room was large and beautiful. The high ceiling made it feel even bigger. Soft cream-colored walls matched the shiny marble floor. A huge king-sized bed sat in the middle, covered with clean white sheets and fluffy pillows. A crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling, filling the room with warm light. One side of the room had floor-to-ceiling windows covered with long silk curtains. There was a comfortable sofa, a glass coffee table, and a large flat-screen TV on the wall. A wooden wardrobe stood in one corner, while fresh flowers decorated the bedside table. Everything in the room looked expensive, neat, and elegant, making it feel like a room in a five-star hotel. And it had a balcony..I strode to the balcony and held the protective brick rails and closed my eyes. The air was so fresh and I wanted to absorb as much of the sun's glow as possible. Everywhere was calm but I could see the guards everywhere. With guns. Paying no attention to them. I went back to my room. I turned on the TV and tried watching but I wasn't feeling it. I just decided to sleep. * I woke up some hours later after Theresa shouted my name for the third because I heard the first two but I didn't realize she was actually calling me. I rubbed my eyes and stared at her. “Good evening ma” “Do you think you're here to sleep?” “I'm sorry ma” “Do you know what the time is?” she complained further. This was my first day for Christ sake. I looked towards the balcony and then I realized that I had realized it was night already. “I'm sorry ma” All I could do was apologize. “These are your new clothes” she said, throwing a bag on the bed. “Have your bath and come down for dinner, you'll be serving them. You have just ten minutes” with this , she left the room. “Yes ma” I touched the bag and I could feel a tear streaming down. New clothes. These were the same new clothes that made me follow my aunty out. Now I have them. Remembering the ten minutes deadline. I rushed to the bathroom and was wowed. Was this some kind of blessing in disguise? If my aunty knew this was what she was selling me into, she would definitely sell herself to be here. I rushed and tried on different clothes. After trying them about a million times, I settled for a blue gown. That stopped just on my knee. It wasn't body hugging….it was flair and very pretty . I rushed downstairs and luckily for me. The dining was being set by the other maids. It didn't stop Theresa from shooting me a deadly glare. “You're late” “I'm sorry ma” There was plenty of food. For just two people . I thought. I stood beside two other maids. “They're both picky eaters” the girl beside me whispered enough for me to hear her clearly without looking at me. How did she know what I was thinking? “H..hi” She looked at me and smiled. “Hi, I'm Camila” A friendly person. Finally, “Elena” “You're beautiful” “Thank you” I chuckled. She's not just friendly. She compliments people. I looked around. Long tables stretched across the dining room, covered in spotless white clothes. Silver cutlery sparkled beneath the crystal chandelier and dishes I had never seen before filled the table. Roasted meat, pasta, bread, soup, fruits, desserts…it looked like enough food to feed everyone in this house. Including the guards. “Elena” “Yes ma'am!” I rushed over to her. “You would stand beside Lorenzo's chair” “Why?” I heard myself ask and I could hear the whispers among the maids. “ I'm so sorry ma, yes ma'am” “Listen carefully” she started, ignoring my stupidity and I simply nodded. “You don't speak unless he asks you a question” “Yes ma'am” “You don't look him directly in the eyes, don't touch anything on the table without permission.” “Yes ma'am” “And..” We were interrupted by the coughing of one of the maids. Lorenzo had entered. He wasn’t wearing the clothes from earlier. Instead, he had changed into black trousers and a black long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms. A watch rested on his wrist, and his expression remained as cold as ever. Without looking at anyone, he walked toward the dining table. Everyone bowed.“Good evening, Boss.” He didn’t respond. His eyes swept across the room before stopping on me. For a second, I forgot how to breathe. He frowned.“You.” My heart skipped. “Yes… sir?” “What are you doing here?” he asked. I swallowed. “Theresa said I should serve dinner.” His jaw tightened.“I don’t remember asking for you.” Nobody dared speak. Theresa quickly stepped forward. “Boss, Madam instructed…” “I wasn’t talking to you.” She immediately stepped back. Lorenzo pulled out his chair and sat down. The other chair beside him remained empty.ProbablySonia’s. The thought made me feel sad. He picked up his fork. I stood beside him exactly as Theresa had instructed. The silence became unbearable. Every servant looked terrified. Did they always eat like this? Suddenly another pair of footsteps echoed on the stairs. A little boy appeared. He couldn’t have been more than five. His curly black hair was messy, and he hugged a sketchbook tightly against his chest. Leo. I guessed and I was definitely right. He walked slowly toward the table without saying a word. Lorenzo looked up.“Come here.” Leo obeyed silently. Lorenzo pulled out the chair beside him. Leo climbed onto it and continued staring at his sketchbook. Neither of them spoke. The silence between father and son hurt more than words ever could. I remembered what Madam had said.He hadn’t spoken since his mother died. Theresa quietly served Lorenzo’s food. Another maid served Leo. I simply stood there, trying not to attract attention. A few minutes later, Leo accidentally dropped his spoon. It landed beneath the table. The child looked at it but didn’t move. The servants exchanged nervous glances. Nobody dared bend down. I looked around in confusion. It was just a spoon. Why was everyone acting so strangely? Seeing that no one was helping, I slowly knelt down. “I’ll get it,” I whispered. I reached beneath the table and picked up the spoon. Before I could stand… CRASH! A glass shattered on the floor. I jumped in fright. Lorenzo had slammed his hand against the table. His cold eyes burned into mine. “What exactly do you think you’re doing?” “I… I was only picking up…” “I gave you no permission to move.” “I was trying to help Leo.” “He doesn't need your help!” The room became deadly quiet.Even Leo stopped drawing. “I-I’m sorry…” “You seem to misunderstand something.” He slowly stood. His towering height made me feel even smaller. “You are a servant.” I lowered my head. “You do not make decisions in this house.” “Yes, sir.” “You do not touch anything unless instructed.” “Yes, sir.” “You do not speak unless spoken to.” “Yes, sir.” He took another step closer. Closer that I could perceive his cologne, that smelled like strawberries. “And most importantly…” His voice became dangerously calm. “You stay away from my son unless I tell you otherwise.” My eyes widened. “But Madam said I was his nanny..” “I don’t give a f**k on what my aunt said!” His voice thundered through the dining hall. “I make the rules in this house!”The force of his shout made me flinch. He hit the table and plates crashed onto the marble floor, shattering into dozens of pieces. Nobody moved. Nobody dared to even breathe. Lorenzo’s eyes darkened as he stared at the broken dishes. Then he looked back at me. “GET OUT!”
