Chapter 17 SERAFINA I ran. My legs felt like they were on fire, but I didn't stop. I couldn't stop. My lungs burned with every gulp of air I dragged in, but the fear pumping through my veins made me push harder. I didn't know where I was going, only that I had to find Desmond and the other kids. Wherever they'd gone, it wasn't safe. I could feel it, the kind of wrong that settled deep in your chest and refused to let go. The woods loomed ahead, dark and uninviting, despite the bright sun.
