CHAPTER THREE

1011 Words
Harper's POV The morning comes with a loud knock on my door. I know my parents might be trying to intimidate me, but I still feel a twinge of worry. What do they want now? I quickly get up and open the door. Father snarls, "Get to the pack now!" I say, "It's too early, I'll go at 7 am." But he pulls my hair hard, dragging me back into my room. Father's anger burns as he asks, "Who do you think you are, telling me what you'll do?" Spencer appears at the door, and I quickly dress and follow her to the pack. We walk in silence, as we always do. As soon as we arrive, I dash to the restroom, feeling sick to my stomach. I gaze into the mirror and my eyes are as white as snow, a eerie sight that sends a shiver down my spine. I vomit into the toilet, my body shaking. I crouch down, struggling to keep my balance, and try to compose myself to explain my condition to my boss. I attempt to slip out of the restroom unnoticed, but my boss appears in the hallway. I quickly duck back in and wait for her to leave. Then, I make a break for the pack doctor's office, my heart pounding. I arrive just before 7 am, hoping to go unnoticed. "Please, keep my secret," I beg the pack doctor, my voice barely above a whisper. He eyes me skeptically, his gaze piercing, but he sets aside his tasks and focuses on me, his expression softening slightly. "Madam Emily, congratulations, you're two weeks pregnant," the doctor announces, and I clap my hand over my mouth to stifle a squeal of delight. I'm over the moon, but I don't want to draw attention to myself. I thank him profusely and rise to my feet, beaming with joy. As I turn to leave, he calls me back and hands me the test results. I tuck them into my pocket, smiling at his thoughtfulness, and thank him again before departing. I step out of the doctor's district, my mind reeling with a mix of shock and elation. I can't wait to share the news with Alpha Jace. No one else has been with him, and I was a virgin until that fateful night. There's no doubt the child is his. I feel a surge of determination, knowing I have a legitimate claim to him now. This proof will ensure he mates with me, and I'll make sure the pack recognizes my status. A sense of triumph and purpose fills me as I contemplate my next move. I go about my day, completing my tasks, including mopping the floors and doing dishes. When it's time to clean Alpha Jace's personal room, I approach cautiously, hoping he's awake. But he's still asleep, likely having returned to bed after our earlier encounter. I try to focus on my work, but when I see Spencer exiting his room with an empty tray, my curiosity gets the better of me. I boldly enter Alpha Jace's room, determined to confirm his wakefulness myself. As I step inside, my eyes lock onto his figure, and my momentum falters. The mop and bucket slip from my grasp, crashing to the floor with a loud clatter. My heart races as I freeze, my gaze fixed on him, hoping he hasn't noticed my sudden presence. As I apologize and attempt to compose myself, a sudden jolt of electricity courses through my body, leaving me breathless. My eyes lock onto Alpha Jace's, and I'm met with a mirrored expression of shock and intensity. It's as if we're both experiencing the same inexplicable sensation. Before I can process what's happening, he swiftly closes the distance between us, pinning me against the wall with a fierce gaze. His heavy breathing sends shivers down my spine as I struggle to maintain my composure, my heart racing with anticipation. "Mate," he whispers, his warm breath caressing my skin as my cheeks flush with surprise. I'm taken aback by the unexpected declaration, my mind reeling with the implications. Alpha Jace, the most powerful and elusive figure in the pack, claims me as his mate? It's unfathomable. As he releases his grip, his expression darkens, and his eyes blaze with anger as I sense the anger brewing within him. My heart races as I wait for him to finish speaking. I'm trapped, unable to move or clean, and his words scare me. He pins me against the wall, his eyes burning with intensity, and says, "I'm the pack leader, and I don't want a weak partner. Omegas haven't helped the pack before, so I don't expect much from you." His words are harsh, and I feel afraid and unsure. I'm stuck, unable to move or speak, as he keeps glaring at me with anger and disappointment. "M-my situation could be different..." I stutter, tears welling up in my eyes. But he cuts me off with a firm "Don't say a word." His Alpha tone brooks no argument. Then, with a sneer, he declares, "I, Jace Austin Thompson, reject you, Harper Riley Jackson, as my mate and Luna of the pack." His words feel like a slap, and I sob as he holds me firmly in place. "Come on, accept the rejection," he growls, his voice devoid of empathy. My voice shakes with sobs as I force out the words, "I, Harper Riley Jackson, accept your rejection." He releases his grip, and I collapse to the ground, burying my face in my knees as I sob uncontrollably. The pregnancy test result in my pocket feels like a bitter reminder of my humiliation. "Get out of my room!" He snarls, his fingers curled like claws. I wipe away tears with my palms and scramble to my feet, feeling defeated, rejected, and the mate bond between us starting to fray. I flee his room, sobs filling the air as my heart was heavy with pain and despair, unsure of the next bombshell that was going to fall.
