James stepped a little closer, keeping a safe distance, and whispered, barely audible, “Animals.”
He immediately straightened, glancing around to see if anyone had heard. Finding no one, relief washed over him.
Confusion spread across Iris’s face, but then her thoughts drifted when she remembered the hyena, the wild birds.
She gulped, remembering those wild animals.
How many does he have?
The thought sent a chill through her.
She ignored them and started walking down the hallway, but when she heard footsteps rushing behind her, she stopped.
Turning around, she questioned, “Why are both of you following me?”
They gulped nervously. “It’s the master’s order,” James said. “We are to be your shadow and make sure no harm comes to you, Queen.”
