Emily's POV
My eyes widened so much it felt like they were going to pop out. I froze, my heart hammering against my ribs.
Amidst Tyler, his mom, and the others, there she was a girl crouched on the floor. Her blonde hair plastered to her head, damp with sweat. Dark circles shadowed her eyes, and her frame looked frail. She hugged herself tightly, rocking slightly, terrified and trembling.
I just stood there frozen. The girl looked like she had been through hell. She was skinny, trembling all over, hugging herself tightly as if she could disappear inside herself. Her puffy, red eyes darted around, and her sobs were loud.
Tyler rushed forward, crouching beside her. “Skylar,” he said, his voice trembling slightly. He cupped her cheek gently. “It’s okay. It’s okay.”
