Chapter 15His valet having considered Jo fit to venture abroad on the streets and salons of the West End for the evening and still having both gentlemen with rooms on the same floor to dress to his exacting standards, he went on his way. Jo was delighted to see Daniel enter his quarters as the superior servant departed. “How lovely,” Jo said, closing the door and greeting Daniel with a kiss. “I didn’t expect to see you until tomorrow. I’m almost ready. I won’t be long, and then we can walk part of the way together.” Normally, Jo would receive a warm smile from Daniel at such a suggestion, but tonight he did not respond.
