Standing behind Wang Xuemei, Jing Xiaode was livid. "You scoundrel! What are you even saying?"
Jing Ning scoffed, "The truth."
She had never expected the woman who was with Mu Yanze to be her half-sister, Jing Xiaoya.
At first, she thought it was just Mu Yanze betraying her, and in her anger, she came up with a petty scheme to embarrass him and vent her frustration.
But, to her shock, it was a double blow—her fiancé not only cheated on her, but the woman he cheated with was also her half-sister.
How ridiculous!
"You!" The old lady was beside herself with rage, raising her cane as if to strike, but Yu Xiulian quickly intervened.
"Mom, let’s talk calmly. Don’t get too worked up. You need to be careful not to hurt yourself."
Turning to Jing Ning, she added, "Jing Ning, don’t make Grandma angry. This was Xiaoya’s fault, and once it’s all over, you can do whatever you want—hit her, scold her, whatever. But Grandma is old. For my sake, please apologize to her. Don’t argue with her, alright?"
She sounded so gentle and understanding that if you didn’t know better, you’d think she was incredibly kind.
Jing Ning smirked bitterly.
Her father, Jing Xiaode, was even more enraged at the sight of her.
"You’re enjoying this, aren’t you? You’ve sent your sister and your fiancé to the police station, making our Jing family and the Mu family lose face. Do you even remember your own surname?"
"Your sister’s a celebrity, and after causing this scene, how is she going to survive? Can she still work in the entertainment industry? Do we need to cut ties with the Mu family from now on? Have you even thought about any of this?"
Jing Ning stared at him coldly. "So, all you can think about is this?"
Jing Xiaode paused for a moment.
"They colluded against me, and yet you’re blaming me? What do you want me to do? Turn a blind eye to their actions? Or be magnanimous and wish them a lifetime of happiness?"
Jing Xiaode was left speechless, standing still for a moment before he snapped, "You couldn’t keep your man, and now you’re blaming others for taking him? If you were worth anything, would he have left you for your sister? When something goes wrong, you don’t reflect—you just complain. What’s the difference between you and your useless mother?"
Jing Ning was taken aback, her whole body trembling at his words.
Looking at her father, so filled with anger, she couldn’t believe it.
Five years ago, when Jing Xiaode cheated, Yu Xiulian brought Jing Xiaoya into their family, and that’s when Jing Ning found out she had a half-sister, who was just slightly younger than her.
Her mother couldn’t bear the blow and drove into a river, dying in the crash.
The Jing family, fearing she would make a scene, sent her abroad, completely indifferent to her well-being.
If it hadn’t been for the small inheritance her mother left behind, she might have already died abroad during those years.
She had always known that her father and the old lady didn’t like her mother, but she never imagined that even after her mother’s death, she’d still have to endure this kind of slander.
A cold wave of dread washed over her. After a brief pause, she gave a mockingly bitter smile.
"Yes, I really am useless. After all, I didn’t inherit the skills of seducing men from a mother who was so good at it. Jing Xiaoya has surpassed her mentor—I can truly see it now."
Yu Xiulian’s face instantly turned pale.
Jing Xiaode, furious, shouted, "What nonsense are you spouting?"
"You know exactly what I’m saying."
"You!"
"Enough!"
The old lady suddenly interrupted, her voice sharp. Jing Xiaode was so angry that he wanted to retort, but Yu Xiulian quickly pulled him back.
They looked up to see Mu Tianhong, leading Mu Yanze and Jing Xiaoya, walking out from the interrogation room.
Mu Tianhong looked grim, and neither Mu Yanze nor Jing Xiaoya looked any better.
Jing Xiaoya clung tightly to Mu Yanze’s arm, her delicate face filled with pain and guilt, her eyes red from crying, looking completely vulnerable.
A group of people rushed forward, eager to show their concern. "Xiaoya! Are you okay?"
Jing Xiaoya shook her head, softly replying, "I’m fine."
She then looked towards Jing Ning, standing behind the crowd.
"Sister."
She called out softly, stepping forward with an apologetic and fragile look on her face.
"I’m sorry. I didn’t expect you to come… Me and Brother Azé… We didn’t mean to. Please forgive us."
Jing Ning looked at her coldly, her expression emotionless.
Mu Tianhong sighed, stepping forward. "This is our Mu family’s fault, but what’s done is done. There’s no turning back. If you need any compensation, just say the word, and our Mu family will make it right."
Jing Ning sneered, "Compensation? You think you can just throw money at me to make things better?"
Mu Tianhong’s expression shifted, a flicker of guilt in his eyes.
He turned and shot a harsh glare at Mu Yanze. "You fool! You caused this mess, why don’t you step up and explain yourself?"
Mu Yanze looked reluctant, casting a glance at Jing Ning, but under his father’s pressure, he unwillingly stepped forward.
"Jing Ning, we’re not suited for each other. Let’s cancel the engagement."
Jing Ning was stunned.
It felt as though her heart had been struck by a dull knife, a faint pain seeping through her chest.
S
he had known what the outcome would be, but hearing the words spoken still brought an unexpected wave of sadness, a chill settling in her heart.
She looked at the man in front of her, curling her lips into a smile, her eyes flashing with a hint of anger.
"Mu Yanze, how long have we been together?"
"Six years."
Six years? Ha!
She never expected that six years would amount to this.
She had caught him in the act, and afterward, there was no guilt, no attempt at reconciliation, no apology—only the cold, emotionless words, "We’re not suited for each other."
Something inside her cracked open, and she gave a mocking smile, not hesitating for a second. "Fine. I agree."
Mu Yanze froze, surprised by her quick decision.
He furrowed his brow, looking at her in suspicion. "Are you serious?"
"I’ll agree to the cancellation, but I want the three newly acquired subsidiaries of the Mu Group as compensation."
"What? Are you out of your mind?!"
Before Mu Tianhong or Mu Yanze could speak, Jing Xiaode shouted angrily.
Jing Ning shot him a cold glare. "You’re in such a hurry to speak on their behalf, even though we aren’t even in-laws yet? Isn’t that a little shameless?"
"You!"
"Enough."
Mu Tianhong raised his hand to silence Jing Xiaode, then looked calmly at Jing Ning.
"I agree to your terms. When you bring the other half of the marriage certificate, I’ll transfer the companies to your name."
"It’s a deal."
Mu Tianhong and his lawyer left, and Jing Xiaode, still fuming, shot one last glare at Jing Ning before storming off with Yu Xiulian, supporting the old lady.
The hallway was left empty, with only Jing Ning, Mu Yanze, and Jing Xiaoya remaining.
She didn’t want to drag things out any longer. With a cold expression, she turned to leave, but Jing Xiaoya’s voice called out to her.
"Sister!"
Before she could take another step, someone blocked her path.
Jing Xiaoya’s face, pale and tear-streaked, grabbed her arm, trembling as she said, "Sister, I’m sorry. I never meant to fall for Brother Azé. Please don’t be angry with us. It’s all my fault. If you want to hit or scold anyone, just take it out on me!"
