THE ENCOUNTER

919 Words
✦ Isabella was on her way back from her grandma's house, grocery list in hand. As she walked along the street, a small, injured kitten caught her eye. The tiny creature was huddled on the roadside, whimpering in fear and pain. Just then, the sound of a car engine approached, getting louder by the second. With an heavy heart, she realized she had to act fast to save the defenseless creature. Without a second thought, Isabella jumped onto the road, determined to save the kitten. The car's brakes squealed to a halt just inches from where she stood, the driver looking shocked and annoyed. The passenger door opened and out stepped a young man, towering above Isabella, his expression cold and aloof. He approached her, his eyes flickering downward to the trembling kitten in her arms before looking at her. As soon as their eyes met Isabella almost gaped. The man before her was just to good looking - No good looking was actually a huge understatement. She was sure that he was a hundred times more handsome than any celebrity she has ever seen in her life. He was tall. His wavy black hair looked like it was combed by his fingers and swept back with few strands on his face. He had a strong defined and masculine jawline - It was perfection in her eyes. He looks to good to be true. She was utterly impressed, and she had never been this impressed by a man's beauty before. How could a mortal man look this...this stunning. This kind of Man must have lots of women falling to his feet. But this Beautifully crafted Man, was glaring down at her looking quite displeased. His eyes were hostile, making her want to shrink to the floor. She was sure that if looks could kill she would have been dead by now. She held the kitten tightly rooted on the spot almost trembling. "Do you want to die?" Isabella flinched back from the resentment in his voice. His ice cold eyes glimmered with a dangerous light and it chilled her more than the freezing temperature. She couldn't help but think that this man is the perfect example on beautiful demon king she often reads in her frictional novels After swallowing her own saliva, Isabella forced herself to respond to him. "No..I...I was just trying to save this little kitten" She said as the man's eyes narrowed at her and then he moved his feet walking closer to her. Every step he took felt like a tickling time bomb to her but surprisingly, She was able to hold her ground despite her knees shaking a little. She was surprised. When the man stopped just less than a meter before her, She couldn't help but bite her lip. The man was scrutinising her, looking at her like she was...some kind of a prey, "Dangerous" is an understatement to call his dark eyes "Little girl...so what you are telling me now is that you are risking you life for this little thing?" He asked his gaze more deadlier than the sharpest dagger. He was glaring at her like he wanted to kill her. He had such killer eyes that could pierce to someone's soul. "I am sorry for the trouble" Isabella muttered looking down innocently at the little kitten. With a deep breath, Isabella looked up at him, her eyes locking onto his intense gaze. She knew he wasn't pleased, and his cold stare was intimidating, but she refused to back down. The injured kitten in her arms let out another small mewl, its tiny body trembling against her. "I don't see it as a risk," she said firmly, her voice strong despite the slight flutter in her heart. "I see it as what's right. This little creature is injured and needs help. I couldn't just leave it on the side of the road to suffer." His eyes darkened at her words, his expression hardening even further. He took a step closer, looming over her, his intense presence making her feel small in comparison. "You're a fool," he said, his voice a low growl. "Risking your own safety for an animal." Isabella felt a pang of fear at his words and his intimidating stance, but she stood her ground. "It's not about being a fool," she retorted, trying to keep her voice steady. "It's about doing what's right. I can't just ignore suffering." His eyes narrowed, a flicker of anger in his gaze. He stepped even closer, his face mere inches from hers now. "Suffering is everywhere," he growled. "You can't save the world, little girl." Isabella felt speechless.... He look at her with a smile that is not a smile before turning back to enter his car...as he about to enter his car Isabella said something that seemed to shake him. "That doesn't mean I can't try," she said, her voice firm despite the shiver running down her spine. He halted in his tracks, his hand on the car door. He hadn't expected her to counter his statement with such conviction. He smirked a little before entering his car and driving off. Isabella watched as he got into the car and drove away, a mix of relief and confusion running through her. She couldn't believe she had just stood up to the mysterious stranger who had made her feel both unnerved and intrigued. As the car disappeared from sight, she let out a shaky breath, her heart still racing from the encounter.
