Elena's POV
The word refused to leave my mind.
President.
It echoed over and over as I stirred the coffee in my mug.
"Earth to Elena."
Lily snapped her fingers in front of my face.
"You've stirred that coffee for five minutes."
I blinked.
"What?"
"You've been somewhere else since you came home."
Mrs. Rose placed a plate of warm garlic bread on the table before sitting beside us.
"Is work becoming too stressful?"
I smiled faintly.
"No... work is actually going well."
"Then what's bothering you?"
I hesitated.
Maybe I was overthinking.
Maybe it was nothing.
Still...
"I heard something strange today."
Lily immediately leaned forward.
"Tell me."
"I was taking a file to Mr. Knight after work."
"I reached the basement parking."
"I think... someone called him 'President.'"
