The air in the glass-and-steel lobby of Vance Enterprises was cold.
I stood near the central elevator bay, my hand gripping my leather designer handbag so tightly that my manicured nails dug into the leather. The ambient hum of early morning staff moving across the marble floor meant nothing to me. My eyes were fixed on the private executive elevator at the far end of the hall.
