Episode 4 – A Ride Toward Destiny(2)

1036 Words
Estimated wait time: 15 minutes. Too long. Way too long. By the time a car arrived, the interview would be over before it even started. She bit her lip, stepping dangerously close to the curb, her eyes scanning the sea of cars for any sign of hope. Please... Just one ride. Just one miracle. The Stranger Suddenly, a deep, guttural roar echoed through the concrete street, drowning out the standard hum of city traffic. One heavy, black motorcycle tore around the corner. Then another. Then several more. It was a pack of high-end, matte-black sportbikes and cruisers, moving with a disciplined, predatory rhythm. Everyone on the sidewalk instinctively stepped back from the curb, intimidated by the sheer noise and presence. Their riders wore identical, heavy black leather jackets, dark carbon-fiber gloves, and sleek, tinted helmets. They looked imposing, entirely detached from the mundane world of morning commuters. One by one, the powerful machines sped past, the wind from their wake whipping against Elena's skirt. Except one. The last motorcycle in the formation slowed down significantly. The heavy machine purred with a low, dangerous growl as it glided toward the curb. It stopped right beside her. The rider never removed his helmet. His face remained completely hidden behind a pitch-black, reflective visor that mirrored Elena’s wide, panicked eyes. Even sitting down, his presence was overwhelming. Broad shoulders filled out the premium leather jacket, and the sheer size of the bike made her feel incredibly small. A deep, resonant voice came through the helmet's integrated comm system, slightly muffled but impossibly clear. "Need help?" Elena hesitated, stepping back a half-inch. "I..." "My bus broke down," she stammered, pointing a shaking hand toward the smoking transit vehicle behind them. "I have an interview. I'm already getting late." The rider didn't say anything at first. He slowly turned his head, looking toward the towering glass and steel skyscrapers visible in the distance, cutting through the morning haze. "Knight Global Holdings?" he asked. Her eyes widened in sheer shock. "Yes. How did you—?" Without another word, he reached around to the back of his seat, unlatched a spare, matte-black helmet, and held it out to her. "Get on." She blinked, paralyzed by the absurdity of the situation. "W-What?" "You have less than fifteen minutes," the deep voice reminded her, a sharp edge of reality cutting through her hesitation. "You'll miss your interview." There was something profoundly commanding about his tone. It wasn't rude or aggressive. It was just... completely impossible to argue with. It was the voice of someone who was used to making decisions, and having those decisions followed without question. Elena looked at the helmet, then looked at her watch. 8:46 A.M. It was either take a risk with a complete stranger on a motorcycle, or give up on her mother's treatment, Ethan's college fund, and the future of Rose's Café. The choice wasn't a choice at all. She quickly accepted the helmet, sliding it over her head and fastening the strap under her chin just like she had seen in movies. "Thank you." She carefully managed to climb onto the back of the sleek machine, smoothing her pencil skirt down as best she could, trying to find a balance between modesty and survival. "Hold on," he commanded. Before she could even ask what she was supposed to hold onto, the motorcycle pulled away from the curb smoothly, the sudden burst of acceleration forcing her to wrap her arms tightly around his broad waist. He felt solid as a rock. They weaved through the gridlocked morning traffic with effortless, terrifying precision. Unlike the reckless street riders she had always imagined, this man drove with complete, absolute control. He knew exactly how wide his bike was, leaning into the curves of the road with a calculated fluidity. Not once did she feel unsafe. The wind roared past her ears, the city blurring into lines of grey and glass, but behind his back, she felt completely shielded from the elements. The Arrival Within minutes, the massive, imposing headquarters of Knight Global Holdings came into view. The building was a monument to wealth—a seventy-story monolith of dark blue glass reflecting the morning sun. The rider sliced through the final intersection and pulled the motorcycle to a smooth stop directly in front of the grand, marble-pillared entrance. Elena scrambled off the bike, her heart hammering against her ribs, a wild mix of adrenaline and relief coursing through her veins. She unbuckled the helmet and handed it back to him with a breathless, radiant smile. "Thank you so much," she gasped, checking her watch. 8:54 A.M. She had six minutes to spare. "Seriously, I don't know how to repay you. You saved my life today." The mysterious rider accepted the helmet, locking it back into place behind him. He simply nodded once, a gesture so brief it was almost imperceptible. "Good luck, Elena." Her breath hitched. She hadn't told him her name. Had she? Before she could even open her mouth to ask how he knew who she was, or ask for his name so she could properly thank him later... The heavy engine roared back to life with a deafening rumble. The mysterious rider pulled away from the curb, seamlessly disappearing into the heavy morning traffic without looking back a single time. Elena stood on the pristine marble steps, watching the space where he had been just a second ago. "What a strange man..." she murmured to herself, shaking her head to clear her racing thoughts. Smiling to herself, she adjusted her navy-blue blazer, smoothed down her skirt, and turned toward the towering glass revolving doors of the corporate empire. She felt invincible now. If she could survive a sudden bus breakdown and a high-speed motorcycle ride through the city, she could handle a panel of corporate interviewers. She walked into the lobby, her heels clicking confidently against the polished granite floor. She had absolutely no idea. The mysterious biker who had just saved her interview... The man whose waist she had just been desperately clinging to... Was the very man waiting in the top-floor executive suite, holding her resume in his hands, ready to decide her entire future.
