Alpha, pick your battles wisely

Rowena’s POV I fell on my knees, clutching my head. I felt like my head was about to explode and split in two. I knew she was invading my mind. I saw Marlekeen follow my suit as she fell on her knees, too, writhing in visible pain. This happened each time when they used their mind-compelling abilities. And Marcellus was the worst and strongest among them. Luckily, he usually steered clear of me, as he knew that Noosha was controlling me, having my sisters as leverage to force me to fight for her cause. Luckily, Noosha and her daughters are the weakest telepaths in the family, so the pain I usually face when they control me is bearable. It is the basic mind-compelling ability of a deity. They would usually ask me to fortify it with my magic if they wanted it to be stronger. And even then, Noosha and her daughters are pretty limited in their ability to compel, unlike Marcellus. Well, at least, that is what I heard from those who were tortured by Marcellus. I have heard the rumours that his powers even exceeded those of Hades’. “Do I need to remind you what is at stake here, Rowena? Shall I send Lacrimavlian demons to have fun with your little sisters?” her voice echoed in my head with a clear threat. No, it was not a threat. It was a promise. “Your Highness, my fated mate is in here under the cloak. Please, I beg you…I cannot kill my soulmate.” I mind-linked her. “Thread carefully, Rowena,” she mind linked me back with the smirk on her face. “If you choose him instead of obeying the command, little Araya will die, and I promise you, it will not be a fast nor painless death. You saw, and you know very well what we can do. After that, we will have fun with little Alyss. And rest assured little witch, I will also slau.ghter your little wolf mate like a pig just to teach you a lesson. But I will save him for the end and make you watch it.” she agitatedly boomed in my head before she stopped the compelling invasion of my mind. It looks like she stopped Marlekeen’s torment as well, given that Marlekeen was not contorting in pain anymore, but she seemed very distressed and disturbed. What was she threatening with to Marlekeen? It is not a secret that they usually threaten to harm my sisters if I don’t follow their suit, but I am just curious: what are they holding as a leverage against Marlekeen? Because it is clear as a day that she is doing many things for them against her own volition and beliefs. Then Ramaleen shouted so everyone could hear: “So…?!!! What is it going to be, ladies, co.cks or your family, the one family that truly matters?!!!! Both of you are the possession of Wengarthria! Whom your loyalty belongs to!!!?” she said as she watched us with clear challenge and a hint of disgust. Other witches were meanwhile unsuccessfully attacking the shield made by enchanted twins while a mas.sacre of epic proportions brewed within the shield. Ramaleen knew that if she wanted to stand at least a slim chance of shattering the shield, she needed me and Marlekeen. And even then, I am unsure if we can break the shield of fae twins. “Strike the shield! Both of you! Now!!!” she roared at us. “Don’t do it! You are my mate! She will kill your sisters regardless! If you switch your sides, we could try to get them out of dungeons. That way, they will have at least slim chances of survival.” I could hear my mate’s voice from the shield. “What a f***k are you talking about, you treacherous prick? I will kill you and anyone who disobeys the ban on mating with non-Lycans!” Malleteagan said and round-kicked Omar straight into the jaw. As he kicked my mate, the pain of Malleteagan's assault radiated through my body, causing me to slouch and fall on my knees due to the impact of Malleteagan's kick. Malleteagan turned and looked in mine and Merlekeen’s direction with a sadistic smirk and sinister glint in his eyes. He pivoted and kicked Omar straight to his chest with a sidekick, knocking the air out of his lungs. With a loud oomph and blood spraying from his mouth in a bout, Omar slumped to the floor from the force of the kick. As he fell on the floor, Omar looked in my direction, concern written over his face. It seems that he was more worried about how Malleteagan‘s beating affects me than for his own well-being. He knew that now, as we recognised each other as mates, every feeling and emotion he had would reflect on me and my body. And I felt very blown, and every figment of pain he suffered as if it was inflicted upon me. Omar turned his gaze back to Malleteagan. “Alpha, pick your battles wisely, as you may lose another Beta due to your mating ban, not to mention that you may lose the war. I am not going to reject nor abandon my mate because of you. And there are other Lycans who do not agree with your mating ban either. I will follow you to a certain death if needed, but I will not give up my mate because of you. Take it or leave it!” Omar gritted a challenge through his bloodied teeth while lying on the ground. “Who are you?! You are nothing without me!!! You fuc.king mutt!!! I gave my all to you!!! You were like a son to me!!! I gave it all to you…ranking, respect, immortality and power. Is this how you pay me back?!!!! You betrayed me for the first bit.ch that came across your way. Fuc.king bastard!!! All of you!!! All of you are the same!!! Treacherous bastards!!! All of you!!!” he pointed fingers at his pack of Lycans before he sneered and seethed at my mate in raw rage and started to kick him repeatedly while he was lying on the ground. I shrilled at the sight of my mate’s bloodied and battered face and body. All the Lycans and alliance soldiers remained silent for the moment, appalled by the scene in front of their eyes. The silence, which lasted for less than a second, had an effect as if it lasted for eternity. They were all shocked by Malleteagan‘s uninvited and unreasonable brutality, which bordered with insanity and mania, to his first in command. Malleteagan might have been winning the Wengarthrian battle, but he lost the trust and respect of his warriors as they witnessed his cruelty. Their loyalty is now fear-driven and not out of respect and love. This may change the course of this war. “ Malleteagan, we don’t have time for your pack crap. If you haven’t noticed, we are struggling here! So, stop killing your dogs and focus here!!!” Kandreah yelled as he severed the head of Goatman Skeleton he fought. He and Thersar were both busy with keeping the shield on the battlefield and were at the same time fighting the Konneyard demons who were attacking them in bouts. “What a f***k are you waiting for, you stupid cunt?! Attack them!” Ramaleen hollered at me and Marlekeen. I looked at Marlekeen, and she nodded her head in silent agreement. In a split second, we turned around in unison and charged at shocked Ramaleen. She wasn’t expecting rebellion from the two of us, yet she ducked down swiftly and avoided our blast. She was almost blasted by the simultaneous impact of our magic before her physical form evaporated from the Konneyard battleground. “Fuc.king bit.ches! This is treason! You will pay for this! You will have no chance to say goodbye to your sisters, Rowena. And you, Marlekeen, oh, you know what will be your punishment,” Ramaleen smirked maliciously with a wink.
