Aralyn POV
I woke up in a charming little cottage near the lake where Merlius beat the s**t out of me. I have heard Merlius and Nethanaiah trying to whisper in the distance. Probably to not wake me up. “You have to control your Lycan, Merlius. You could have killed her. I thought you could help her understand her Lycan side as I cannot help her with that, but now I am not so sure anymore. You cannot control even your own Lycan. How will you be able to help her then?” she scolded, and he hung his head low, eye cast down as a little boy who was embarrassed after being scolded by his parents. They were sweet.
“Sorry, sweets”, he sighed and kissed her forehead. ”look, I went out of my mind when I sensed your scent on her, and she did not smell like a rogue but did not smell as if she belonged to a pack either. And then your scent all over her was enough to make my Lycan go bat-s**t crazy….” he sighed and continued. “I did not even register that this was the scent of a female Lycan and not of a male. Everything went red, and then my Lycan took over the control before I could even tame and control him.” he scoffed with frustration and shook his head as if he wanted to shake some thought with the movement. “It is very embarrassing that after being a Lycan for…well…I can’t even remember for how long…I still have issues with controlling my Lycan. But I am good now, I promise. This was just the mate bond playing up,” he said, embarrassment and remorse visible all over his face.
“I will help her and apologise to her, too, again, as many times as needed”, he said, looking at her with puppy eyes.
“Ok,” she scoffed and rolled her eyes.
“But Nat, how is this going to work? We are struggling to hide from Malleteagan ourselves, and you want to hide his most wanted with us. Do you know what Malleteagan did to her mother? Do you want to end up like that? She was massacred to such an extent that she couldn’t be recognised without a DNA analysis. Shreds of what had been left of her were sent to Earth by Malletigan as he wanted to make sure that he killed her.
He is already on our backs because we are a fae elder and Lycan couple. If he finds out we are hiding the creature he haunts for five years…I will leave it to your imagination…but you get the point, right?” Merlius said and shuddered.
“Look…” he sighed, cupped her cheek, and carefully glanced in my direction, checking if I was sleeping and, of course, I was trying my best to look as if I was still asleep….” I feel sorry for the girl, but I am also afraid of Malletigan’s wrath. I was his Beta, but he is stronger than me. He is the son of the Moon Goddess. You have not seen what I have seen. He is not just powerful. He is dreadful, merciless, twisted and dangerous. The powers that he has…are divine. And I cannot overpower him…” Merlius paused for a long moment. “I am not afraid for myself. If he kills me, he kills me…But if something happens to you….” he whispered, then he paused again, gulping and holding back his tears.
“Stop. Nothing will happen to any of us. I am aware that Malleteagan is a demigod, warlock and Lycan. But this girl, are you even aware how much more powerful than him she is? Malleteagan’s blood makes her a Lycan queen and Aeolian witch queen, as well as the direct descendant of a Moon Goddess, his mother. So, she is a more than capable match for him just with that. But also, lest not forget that this girl has the blood of Noosha-Hades’ right hand, wife and queen of the underworld, goddess of spring, the dead, destruction, life, grain, and nature running in her veins.”Nethanaiah said.
“Do not forget that Larissa, Aralyn’s mother, is a product of Noosha’s adulterous hookup with Arcanus, a warlock king of Lapiths of Larissa in Thessaly. Do you see what a bloodline this girl has? She merges two goddesses, three realms and two most powerful royal lineages of warlocks. She is a bridge between heaven and hell. She must learn how to tap into her essence, embrace and hone her powers. Malleteagan is not a match for her in any sense, in his Lycan form, nor with his magic. She is a fascinating interspecies hybrid creature of singular traits. Such traits as hers were never seen before, let alone walked on Earth, Soovaree or any other realm. Whatever Malleteagan‘s reason for impregnating Larissa was….” Nethanaiah paused, sighed and looked away towards me. Gosh, so much information had been spilt in here. It is hard to pretend I am sleeping, so I hope they are buying it. My increased heartbeat is undoubtedly not helping now.
“…she and Malleteagan indeed created a fascinating, unique and remarkable girl, a one of her kind. So, do not fret about Malleteagan, but fret for him if you still feel even the slightest figment of friendship for him. Still, we must ensure that we train her to use her skills for good. Otherwise, she will be a weapon for the destruction of the worlds we know, just as it was foretold in a prophecy.” Nethanaiah said it all in one breath, although she murmured the last bit about prophecy more to herself than to Merlius.
“What prophecy?” Merlius asked. Nethanaiah looked at him and sighed.
Then, she slyly and quickly changed the course of the conversation.
“…Besides, Nerzelis is the last place where he will look for Aralyn. Think about it: who would even think that an outcasted Lycan and a fae witch would help to hide Malleteagan’s most wanted? And not just that, we are brazenly hiding her in front of Malleteagan‘s nose and in the midst of his kingdom. We would probably be the last guess as benefactors who would help the future ruler of three sub-realms of Soovaree to hide. Same as this would be the last place where he would look for her,” Nethanaiah added.
“You know what, if she is so special as you say, I am certain that Malleteagan is not the only one looking for her,” Merlius said, and Nethanaiah furrowed her eyebrows, unspoken worry written all over her face
