The mayor was setting behind her desk looking out the window at the town square, the intercom on her desk buzzed so she turned around and pushed the button, “Send him in,” she said then releasing the button and leaned back in her chair. The Chief, for the second time this week walked into her office, slamming the door behind him. As he began to speak, she held up a hand indicating silence, “Chief, have a seat we are waiting on a few other people. He did as she said, and she turned her chair back around to look out her window once again. Shortly there was another buzz, and again she told her secretary to let the visitors in. She turned back around and looked at the gathered assembly of men and women, “Exactly what the hell is going on in y town people,” she asked of no one in particular, “First there is a shooting at the school. No suspects, then someone killed, skinned, and decorated the science lab with every one of the animals. Now, now I hear that there was an actual herd of zombies in the f*****g park right up the street. Zombies, can someone Please explain this to me.” The silence in the office was deafening at this point, she looked at the Chief, “you are this close to being replaced,” she said holding her index finger and thumb only a few centimeters apart. She stood, still looking at him, “I have everyone I need to dismiss you right here in this office, so if I don’t start getting some results and information that will explain all of this s**t you are gone. Now get out of my office, get me some answers, and be damn sure I don’t have to call you back, because if I do you will walk out of here as a civilian.” Without another word the Chief got up and put his hat on as he walked out the door pissed off and embarrassed. He stormed out the door of city hall red with anger and covered in sweat, how the hell was he supposed to give answers to questions he himself was getting no answers to. ‘Its that b***h, Aspin, he thought as he walked to his car and climbed in, he knew it had to be her, after all she was only a detective because that b***h mayor wanted an equal workplace. Hell, his department wasn’t big enough to support two detectives now was it. Aspin was making him look bad on purpose because she knows he can’t demote or fire her. He remailed silent, staring out the window as Lt. Langley drove them to the station. When they got there, he told Langley that he did not want to be disturbed for the rest of the day as they entered the station. He walked into his office and slammed the door. No one saw him for the rest of the day. Aspin came in, still sick and confused from the scene at the park and headed for the Chief’s office to fill him in on what had happened. She was stopped by Langley and informed that the Chief didn’t want to be disturbed for the rest of the day. As she walked back to her desk, she was informed that he had had his ass bit off and handed to him by the mayor in front of the entire city council. She shook her head and turned on her computer to write up her report for him. Once she finished, she emailed it to him then just sat there looking around the room and quietly thinking to herself. Nothing that has been happening made any logical sense, ‘Seriously, zombies,’ she thought and as it had so many times her mind returned to Katz, ‘He has to be involved, I know it in my bones.’ She turned to look out the window and saw a large black bird setting on the seal looking at her, she started when she first saw it. “What the,” she began before noticing two things, first it had the darkest red eyes she had ever seen, second it was holding something in its beak, she leaned forward to try to get a better look when it opened its beak and let what looked like a stick fall to the floor. She looked from the bird to the stick and back at the bird, it blinked its red eyes once then extended its long black wings, and with one push was launched into the air quickly vanishing out of site. She quickly stood and went to the window; the bird was no where to be seen so she turned her attention to the stick it had dropped. To her surprise it wasn’t a stick, it was a very elaborately decorated arrow, she picked it up and examined it closer. There were some strange markings and patterns on it, she would have to research it later, right now she was more interested in what was tied to it. It looked like paper, but wasn’t, the feel was wrong, it was warm to the touch and almost had a soft leathery texture to it. She walked back to her desk and set down, laying the arrow on her desk, and looking at it. One of the other officers came over to see what she was concentrating so hard on and saw the arrow, he reached out to touch it and yanked his hand back cursing, it had burned him. Now she was really curious about it. She gingerly untied the fine string and removed the letter from the arrow and read it.      Detective Aspin,      I am not sure how to explain the current events, or the ones yet to come, so that                           you can understand them. Rest assured that even though every life lost in the past few         days and the ones that will be slain in the up coming days will be avenged. They will                    in the great hall with Oden for their sacrifice. A battle between Light and Dark has begun        and will be handled as quickly as possible. You and your fellow officers should interfere             as little as possible and concentrate on keeping the children safe throughout this ordeal.  Please do not come looking for me or my foe, you will possibly get yourself injured or          killed. Once the final battle has ended, I assure you my foe and I will be gone and your quiet little town can return to normal, if I loose the battle nothing will change, but if I win               your town, its citizens, and above all its children, will be forever prosperous. Pray                       to the old Gods that I am the victor and not my foe.                                                                     Your Humble Servant                                                                      Noralf Son of Arne She read the note three times trying to make sense of it, she was even more confused now than she had been when she first got to the park that morning. Officer Jones was reading over her shoulder, “What the hell is this guy talking about,” he said, causing her to jump. She dropped the letter and spun around, “What the f**k are you doing, sneaking up on me like that, Jones, Jesus H Christ,” she took a second to get a few deep breaths then looked at him again. “With all the weird crap that is going on right now, you might want to rethink trying to be so stealthy. Did you want something or were you just trying to smell my shampoo again?” He looked at her with a nervous smirk on his face, “Uh ya, there are some reporters outside wanting to talk to you about what happened at the park earlier, the Lt. wanted me to send you out to talk to them since it was part of your case. He said you would know how to handle them and their questions, you know will know what to say and what to hold back.” She examined him for a few more seconds, “OK, I’ll deal with them,” she said as she stood and pulled her jacket on. She slipped the letter into an inside pocket and left the arrow lying on her desk. Then with a deep breath, she strolled to the door and out the door to confront the crowd of reporters and citizens.
