The time was going slower because I was doing something I never really enjoyed, I was standing there with my platter underneath my arms waiting for someone to need a server. My eyes often glance up at the round grey clock hung upside down on the wall. Name me something they did right here. My fingers tapped against the door slider as my thought of my boyfriend hallucinate my mind. "Ava, table nine then you can go home." I sighed in absolute relief ready to face some ignorant men and woman who think their riches and fame treat those lower than them to respect them. Passing a few of my colleagues I reach table nine and take out my note pad and pen with a fake smile. That was normal for us, faking our smile it actually helps us out in the real world as well. Nowadays that is what everyone does. Fake their happiness until It's finally believable. "Good afternoon, may I take your orders?" I questioned, observing down to see two women sitting opposite each other with grunt smirks as their gloved silk hands ran up and down the menu. After a serious thought, one of them raised their head staring at my outfit in utter disgust. Does she expect me to wear some sort of ball gown and take orders? "Do you have anything that doesn't have meat?" We literally are a restaurant for meat, woman like her doesn't surprise me. She's either a vegetarian or didn't want to get herself dirty enjoying the ribs. I raised my hands and pushed the notebook against my chest as I tried giving her some suggestions that she might take up to offer. "Well, we have a salad with chicken but we can remove the chicken for you." I added, she lets out a gasp and looks up at me in scandal. I had no idea if I said something wrong, but I scrutinised her reaction fasten as she articulates the next few words. "Are you calling me fat?” I raise my eyebrows and widen my eyes at her sudden outburst as she stood up pointing in my face, I shook my head disputatious with her statement as I strained to calm her down. "No, I would never. I was giving you the only option without meat." I uttered out and her friend let out a small laugh covering her mouth before I feel a stinging burn hit the side of my cheeks. My hands instantly grabbed my daring and that is where I noticed she raised her hands at me, flashbacks of my father came rushing back to my head as I held a gulp inside. "You're an utter disgrace, I asked for a f*****g cigarette but you couldn't get me that as well" My dad yelled, as he grabbed onto my long hair pulling me against the dirty floor towards the bathroom. I screamed in fear as I watched my mother talk to my father calmly but instead he pushed her away. "Stupid child, so useless." I catch a pair of keys clanking against each other, I cried loudly pleading him to let me go but instead I feel a hard stinging consciousness across my face. That made me shut my mouth almost immediately. I notice the door of the small cupboard underneath the sink open before he shoves me inside, "dad I'm sorry, I will buy you-" the door shuts, the key twisted and the lock clicked in place. I bring my knees up to my chest as I cower in fear. The only light was through the peephole. I felt strangled, uncomfortable and sweaty as I bang harshly on the door crying for him to release me. "Let her out!" My mum yells loudly before I overhear crashes and glass being broken triggering me to instantly calm myself.   Normally I would shout and scream, but the moments those flashbacks erupted I stopped, frozen. How could I ever think, I was safe away from him here. I was restarting my past all over again. "Get me your manager." This was exactly my luck, getting fired. I dipped my head, picking up my note pad from the floor and lifted myself up. "I do not think that is necessary Luanna." His voice rumbles like a storm deep inside of him as he hums a tune. It's low and soft but powerful enough to send chills through your body. My heart was beating a hundred time per minutes grabbing onto the table. See when I said I hated rich people, she was one of them. Name me one rich person who ever showed us lower people respect. Not once has someone who came here even said thank you or please. And by this, I meant people who were born in the life, not celebrities. But that is how life was for us. "She called me fat." Luanna blasted out, I tucked a small hair behind my ear not looking up at the man who interfered in the conversation. I should be thanking him, if anything I should be getting my manager before he comes to me. "f*****g hell, she offered you a salad and I think you should take it seeing your double chin, now are you really going to cause a scene here about your chubbiness?" I exasperated to hold in a laughter that sought to leave my throat, no, Ava, you should not be laughing, not in this moment. When I said this was the first time someone has ever stood up for a lower class like myself I meant it, I still didn't dare to look him in the eyes though. But I am grateful, "Oh my goodness grace, you are right I shouldn't make a scene. Leave us." I nodded my head letting out a much-needed breath before looking up to meet grey eyes. His eyes reminded me of ashes and smoke blowing in the wind coming from a fire that burned everything to the ground. They were intense, coming from that fire that burned deep within his soul. Especially compared to my Hazel eyes they were absolutely beautiful. The eye contact we both had was surreal, though I never travelled down to the rest of his face, I had the common decency to thank him in my own special way. 'Thank you' I mouthed at him before leaving the table and rushing towards the kitchen to throw my apron away. I had to head back home. "Bye Maria, I'm heading home now." I slipped my key card out from the back pocket of my Primark jeans to slide it onto the settler. This makes sure that we have signed out on time and then sign in on time. Sometimes I forget the entire card at home, and then you have to write this really long pin number which barely does any of us favours. "Alright, have a nice birthday tomorrow darling and come in on Sunday and tell me everything. Hopefully he's your soulmate." She gave me a longing wink before kissing my cheek, I hoped for the same thing. I was excited for my birthday because I wanted to properly know if Jake was my actual soulmate or a mistake. You probably don't understand, well let me explain: Every woman on her twenty first birthday will find her soul mate, how? Well, you feel the pain the both of you cause, say I was crying, he would begin crying out of nowhere, the emotions we both connect to, and everyone's biggest fear, the feeling of them having any sort of s****l relationships. When you both find each other, you can stop feeling each other’s pain by s*x. It is a tough thing, but exciting. Tying the back of my hair it was currently 10:58pm meaning my birthday was in one hour and two minutes. Time to find out the truth, the truth I have been waiting for the past seven years of my life.
