THREE Kelly made her way slowly up the stone steps which led to her flat on the fourth floor of the tower block. As usual the lift was out of action and if the council’s previous track record was anything to go by it would remain that way for weeks, if not months, to come. When her mother had passed away, she had hoped that the council might allow her to continue living in the spacious three-bedroom ground-floor apartment they had moved to when Kelly was born. But apparently the council waiting list would not allow for such a luxury, so Kelly had to settle for what she was offered. The one aspect of her abode that she did like was that at night being higher up she was able to see all the other blocks with their intermittent lights sparkling in the blackness.
