EIGHTEEN As soon as Hardy entered the first set of swing doors back at the station, his attention was drawn to the waving arms of PC Grant as she signalled for him to come over to her. She was behind the main desk dealing with a member of the public, so Hardy hung back and waited patiently for his turn. The young man that the PC was dealing with could not have been older than twenty-three or twenty-five, but he sounded like an old man the way he was carrying on about the illegally parked vehicles in his street and how he was unable to park his car when he arrived home from work.
