Chapter Two Alpha Kaidon’s POV Torments of the Night As I ran through the forest, I heard heavy footsteps behind me. I was scared to turn back. My breath was reduced to ragged gasps as I ran faster. I had to calm my breath by counting numbers. Suddenly, an eerily hand grabbed my shoulder and spun me around quickly. I tried to see the face of my attacker but their face was blurred. I tried to plead for my life but I couldn’t speak. It was as though my lips had been sealed together. My attacker raised a knife, its blade shimmering in the moonlight. They were pointing the knife at me and their hand began to descend. I tried to push them off but they were too strong. Suddenly, the knife pierced through my chest, into my heart and that was it. That was the end. Everything suddenly went black. **************************************************************************** I woke up with a start, drenched in my own sweat. It took me a moment to realize it was a dream. It was so real I thought I had really died and had woken up in the afterlife. It’s been two weeks since the witch, Ravenna, was killed and from that night, I had been having strange dreams, or nightmares. Someone was always trying to kill me in all my dreams. I could tell it was a female from the long hair and long, sharp nails. I spent days wondering if the witch's curse was real, although I had initially dismissed it as a mere joke. Just then I heard a knock on my door and before I could even ask the person to come in, the door was pushed open. Only one person had the effontry to do that. “Good mor…oh you look a mess, bro,” Beta Drake said as he walked in. He only called me Alpha when we were out with other people but when alone together, he called me casually. “You wouldn't understand,” I said to him as I pushed the bed covers off my body. “Another nightmare?” He asked me, concern etched in his face and I nodded. “I'm beginning to think that witch's curse is real,” he said. “What do we do then?” I asked. “The only solution to this is finding your fated mate and eliminating her before she even has a chance to,” Drake said. I nodded in agreement. If indeed fated mate would be the end of me, I'd rather have her killed first than wait for her to find me and end my life. “I agree. We have to find her before she finds me,” I said. “Okay; I’ll send men to scout through the town to find her. But how do we do that?” Drake said, scratching his head to the last part. “I'll have to conduct this search myself soni would use my powers to identify my mate. So this is what we would do: I'll send for every she-wolf in town and have them examined. Immediately, I find her, I'll have her singled out and eliminated,” I said. “But what if you don't find her in our own pack? What makes you from another pack?” Drake asked. “I highly doubt that that's possible. But if it is, well examine every she-wolf that comes to our pack from henceforth,” I added. “Alright then, I'll have the messengers spread the news,” Drake said before leaving the room. That evening, the word was spread. All the ladies were invited to the gathering hall the following day. The following day, the gathering Hall was filled with she-wolves of different sizes and Heights. As I strode through the gathering hall, answering multiple greetings at the same time, my eyes scanned the room. The she-wolves of my pack stood before me, waiting in confusion to know why I had gathered them but I said nothing. As I made made way through the crowd, I could feel strongly within me that I was merely wasting my time. I wasn't feeling anything while looking at them - no connection, no sense of recognition whatsoever. It was as if I was walking through an empty room. As I reached the end of the ball where Beta Drake stood, I said to him, “She's not here. I didn't feel anything with these ones.” “Then it's a good thing. Now we know that the enemy isn't close by but we would be on the lookout for any new she-wolf who comes into our pack,” He promised. I shot him a grateful look and before leaving, I said, “Dismiss them. They're already starting to think I called them here because I'm going to marry one of them.” I heard Beta Drake chuckle before I got out of sight. Days passed I was still getting strange nightmares that tormented me. But I had no regrets killing the witch. She deserved it. One day, I was working at the office when I heard a knock on the door. “Alpha Kaidon, a letter came in for you,” beta Drake said. I looked up to see him pointing the letter towards me. “Who is it from?” I asked “It seems to be from your best friend, Alpha Kris. It has the royal seal of the Blue Moon Pack,” Beta Drake responded. I immediately took the letter for him in excitement. Alpha Kris was my childhood friend and it had been a while since I heard from him. I opened the letter and began to read it. “Dear Kaidon, It's been far too long since we last spoke and that's why I'm eager to reconnect. I'm turning a year older and I'd be honored if you could join me at Blue Moon Pack to celebrate. The festivities would run for a few days and I'm looking to sharing some laughs and stories. Can't wait to see you brother. Kris.” A smile appeared on my face. I looked up and Drake and said, “Pack me a bag. I have a journey to embark on.”
